Noel Buxton Trust

Grants to support livelihoods in Sub-Saharan Africa, including for projects related to agriculture and natural resources

Principal Office: UK

The Noel Buxton Trust was established by Noel Edward Buxton in 1919 to achieve social and economic progress in Britain and throughout the world. The Trust currently focuses on three program areas, one of which aims to build local sustainable livelihoods in Africa.

Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources

Africa Grants. The Noel Buxton Trust makes grants up to £5 thousand per year for up to three years for projects in Sub-Saharan Africa that promote economic development, or that support the care of street children.

Past recent projects in the theme of economic development include examples in livestock raising, aquaculture, and credit for women-led businesses.

The Trust especially welcomes applications in support of initiatives that help build sustainable futures in the semi-arid areas of Africa. Priority countries are Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Sudan, and South Sudan. Note: The Trust is also willing to review applications from Sahelian countries if the applications can be submitted in English.

APPLICATION: The Trust invites applications from registered civil society organizations in Africa, and from UK-based charities — including from diaspora organizations based in the UK – for projects in the priority countries.

Applicants submit a short letter to explain why funding is requested. The funding request should be accompanied by an organizational budget; details about other funding already received; and the organization’s latest annual report and accounts.
