Slovenia became a donor country in 2004 upon joining the European Union. A range of ministries implement Slovenia’s international development cooperation. These efforts are coordinated through an inter-ministerial working group, chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Thematic areas of Slovenian aid relevant in the Terra Viva Grants Directory include environmental infrastructure; climate change; sustainable energy; food security; and access to drinking water.
Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources
Co-Funding of Slovenian Development NGOs. The Ministry issues public calls to Slovenian development organizations for projects that support Slovenia’s strategy of development assistance.

Geographical Distribution of Grant Activities in Developing Countries
Slovenia’s geographical priorities for bilateral development cooperation are the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe.
Eastern Europe and Russia: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine
Note: Slovenia’s bilateral projects also include smaller allocations for countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America.

Slovenia has no formal program of grant making for local organizations. However, interested persons in Slovenia’s key partner countries for development cooperation may want to inquire about possibilities through Slovenia’s diplomatic missions.
