The Indigenous Biocultural Exchange Fund provides up to US$5 thousand to indigenous individuals to attend global biocultural exchanges or meetings which impact the applicant’s home territory or region. Applicants must be indigenous or members of a local indigenous community. Additional preference will be given to women and youth. The fund is especially for, but not limited to, indigenous individuals in the following regions: African Rift Valley; Central Asia and Turkey; Southwest U.S. and Northern Mexico; Northern Australia; and Melanesia. UK Department for International Development — Postdoctoral African Fellowship in Hydro-Economics
REACH is a 7-year programme funded by the UK’s Department for International Development, and led by the University of Oxford, to promote research in water science, policy, and practice. REACH will fund a postdoctoral African to develop a hydro-economic tool or model that can be used by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity to address water economics in the important Awash Basin. Applicants must be nationals of a Sub-Sahara African country and should hold a PhD at the time of application.The available funding is up to £60 thousand through March 2019. FAO of the United Nations — FLEGT in Countries with Partnership Agreements
FAO administers the EU’s program of Forest Law Enforcement, Governance, and Trade (FLEGT). The program is open to government institutions, civil society, and private-sector organizations in timber-producing countries engaged in FLEGT’s Voluntary Partnership Agreements. These countries are Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Dem Rep Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Guyana, Honduras, Indonesia, Laos, Liberia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Kenya Community Development Foundation — Wangari Maathai Scholarship Fund for Kenyan Women
The Wangari Maathai Scholarhip is co-sponsored by the Kenya Community Development Foundation, the Greenbelt Movement, and the Rockefeller Foundation to support young Kenyan women (ages 18 – 25) for university studies in environmental conservation. One individual is chosen each year. The selected individual must demonstrate an ability to successfully mobilize people and provide leadership in environmental advocacy. Scottish Government — Climate Justice Fund
The Scottish Government’s Climate Justice Innovation Fund (CJIF) is open to any Scottish-based organisation, working with an in-country partner or partners, to support climate justice-related projects which demonstrate innovation in the field. CJIF projects should be implemented in one or more of Malawi, Rwanda, or Zambia. Awards are up to £100 thousand for grants over a maximum of three years. European Commission — Promoting Investment in Kenya Agribusiness
The EC calls for proposals to identify an institution that will manage a fund to integrate smallholder farmers and pastoralists within their value chains by blending grants and commercial loans to promote agribusiness in Kenya. Eligibility for funding extends to NGOs, public sector operators, local authorities, and international (inter-governmental) organisations based in the EU and ACP countries (including Kenya). Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Geodata for Agriculture and Water 2017-2018
The Geodata for Agriculture and Water (G4AW) Facility uses satellite-based information, agricultural inputs, advice, and/or financial services to aid food producers to sustain and increase their production and livelihoods. G4AW focuses on achieving more efficient use of agricultural water, particularly in irrigated areas and water basins. The G4AW partner countries are Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Colombia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Myanmar, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The program invites applications from partnerships of Dutch organizations working with organizations in the G4AW countries, both private and public. The CEPF invites applications for small (under US$20 thousand) and large grants in support of conserving biodiversity in Madagascar and the Comoros. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs is partnering with HIVOS and Oxfam on methods to effectively empower and give voice to marginalized and discriminated people in low- and lower-middle income countries of Africa and Asia. The thematic areas include one for improved governance and access to productive resources (e.g., land and water) and employment. The priority countries are Cambodia, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Philippines, Tanzania, and Uganda. Voice hopes to stimulate learning about the most successful methods of building community empowerment. Applications are invited from legally registered nonprofit civil society organizations and community groups. The applicant (or a consortium member) must be based in Africa or Asia, and operate in one or more of the focus countries. Grants range from €25 thousand to €500 thousand for up to three years. The EC invites proposals to strengthen Gambia’s smallholder agriculture as a strategy for poverty reduction.
