Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations — Direct Assistance in Sustainable Forestry

The EU’s Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) Action Plan includes grants of technical assistance to benefit government institutions and private-sector organizations. Projects need to address the identified themes in FLEGT. Currently, requests can be submitted from entities in VPA countries and non-VPA countries. The VPA countries are Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Liberia, Republic of the Congo, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Guyana, and Honduras. Grants are up to US$55 thousand. Eligibility extends to government institutions and non-profit organizations. Applications (English, French, Spanish) can be submitted at any time. More about FLEGT

German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy — Women in Wind

The Women in Wind Global Leadership Program aims to advance the role of women in driving the energy transition and promote best practices within the wind industry. Applicants are citizens from China, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Philippines, Senegal, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey, or Vietnam. Successful applicants will be matched with mentors and participate in a comprehensive program from June 2024 to February 2025. The application deadline is 10 May 2024. African Development Bank — Innovators Program

The AfriCircular Innovators Program supports young entrepreneurs by providing extensive support tailored to startups in the circular economy sector. Selected entrepreneurs receive grant funding for market exploration and product development. The program is designed for entrepreneurs who are at the early stage of their entrepreneurial journey. The program will support solutions with operations in Ghana, Ivory Coast, or Rwanda. Applications are open until 26 May 2024. AfriCircular Innovators Program

U.S. Department of State — Countering Wildlife Trafficking

The U.S. Department of State seeks to strengthen the capacity of wildlife institutions and actors in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The call seeks to enhance law enforcement and justice sector efforts to counter wildlife trafficking, ultimately helping to disrupt wildlife trafficking operations, and removing opportunities for criminal organizations to profit from illicit proceeds derived from the wildlife trade. Funding ranges from US$150 thousand to US$3 million. Eligibility for this award is restricted to US-based and foreign non-profit organizations and educational institutions. UK Government — Darwin Plus for British Overseas Territories

The Darwin Initiative contributes knowledge that links biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction in low and middle-income countries. Darwin Plus Fellowships aim to build capacity within the UK Overseas Territories through training opportunities. There are two different budget templates for projects requesting over and under £100 thousand. The Project Leader can be based in any country. However, all Darwin Plus projects are expected to seek in-territory partners. Projects led by in-territory partners/organizations are encouraged. U.S. African Development Foundation — Financing for Agriculture

The U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF) invites applications from registered African agricultural cooperatives and enterprises for grant financing. Grants will support solutions that increase revenues, create jobs, improve farmer incomes, and achieve sustainable market-based growth. USADF accepts applications in Burundi, Cote d’Ivoire, DRC, Liberia, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. Applicants can request no more than US$250 thousand. Ashoka — African Climate Changemakers

The Young African Climate Changemakers Challenge calls on young people aged 16-25 across South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Botswana to unleash their innovation in tackling climate change through ideas and existing initiatives. Applicants will receive access to information and learning sessions, networking opportunities, and access to online resources on social entrepreneurship. Ashoka awards US$1000 to 10 selected winners. European Union — Internationalization Grants

The European Union seeks applications for the Internalization Grants which enable SMEs to enter new markets or strengthen competitiveness abroad. The program has a special focus on the green and digital transition. Applicants can apply only for € 2,500. The Internationalization Grants address small and medium-sized enterprises. Activities should meet one of the main target destinations in Africa, Asia, North and Latin America. The application deadline is 30 September 2024. More

Women for Africa Foundation — Research Fellowships in Spain

The Women for Africa Foundation has launched the 9th Edition of its “Science by Women” program. The program aims to promote African women’s leadership in scientific research and technology transfer and to foster the capacity of the research centers in their home countries. Thematic areas include sustainable agriculture and food security, water, energy and climate change; and several others. Each Spanish Centre of Excellence will host one senior woman researcher for a six-month fellowship. Eligibility to apply extends to women who are nationals of any African country, and who have a PhD, with at least three years of postdoctoral experience. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Nigeria

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives supports small-scale, high-impact projects in Nigeria. The priorities under this call include one on environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as water management. The average contribution is C$30 thousand to C$60 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to local community organizations, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions.
