Kevin Richardson Foundation — Preserving African Wildlife Species

The Kevin Richardson Foundation funds the work of organizations who preserve African wildlife species, protect wildlife habitats, and reduce conflict between humans and wild animals. A wide variety of proposals will be considered, including academic research and rescue and rehabilitation projects. The Foundation awards up to US$ 25 thousand to successful applicants. Projects based in southern Africa are favored, however all projects based in Africa will be considered. Applicants must be a registered non-profit organization or trust. European Commission — Zukunftskolleg Konnect Fellowships for Early-Career Researchers

The European Commission, through the Euraxess initiative, offers the Zukunftskolleg Konnect Fellowships to support early-career researchers from Africa, Asia and Latin America. ZUKOnnect aims to extend research networks and environments through on-campus research stays at thirteen departments of the University of Konstanz. Subject areas include ecology, limnology, ecotoxicology, botany, amongst many others. The fellowship offers a stipend of €1,200/month for doctoral students and €2,000/month for postdoctoral researchers, as well as travel expenses and access to resources and events. British Ecological Society — Grants for Ecologists in Africa 2023

The British Ecological Society (BES) makes grants for ecologists in Africa to carry out innovative ecological research. Applicants must be scientists and citizens of a country in Africa or its associated islands; have at least an MSc or equivalent degree; be working for a university or research institution in Africa that provides basic research facilities; and carry out the research in a country in Africa or its associated islands. The maximum value of a grant is £8 thousand for research. An additional sum up to £2 thousand may be requested to fund travel to help grantees develop connections with other ecologists outside their usual peer groups. African Leadership Forum — Youth Leadership Competition

The African Leadership Forum (ALF) invited applications for the Youth Leadership Competition. The theme is “Promoting African intra-trade to unlock agricultural potential in Africa”. African citizens between the age of 18 – 25 years are invited to submit essays on possible solutions to unlock Africa’s agricultural potential. A grand prize of US$2,000 will be awarded to the overall winner. The deadline for submitting entries is 10 January 2023. Details

GSMA — Innovation Fund for Anticipatory Humanitarian Action

GSMA Innovation Fund for Anticipatory Humanitarian Action seeks to help accelerate the testing, adoption and scalability of digital innovations that leverage mobile digital technology to help anticipate potential humanitarian impacts and enable effective early response. Successful projects will receive an equity-free grant of between £100 thousand and £250 thousand to scale their innovation over a 15 to 18 month period. Start-ups, small and medium enterprises, social enterprises, and non-profit organizations are eligible to apply. Applications close on 19 January 2023. GSMA Innovation Fund

InfoNile — Editors’ Biodiversity Program

InfoNile invites applications from editors from Uganda for an editors’ biodiversity training program. In addition to training with biodiversity and journalism experts, the program will incorporate field visits to conservation projects and natural sites. The workshop will have a focus on reporting on wildlife trafficking and poaching. After the training, editors will pair up with reporters in their media houses to report an in-depth story on biodiversity and/or wildlife trafficking to be published in their media houses, supported by small story grants. Curtin University — PhD Stipends in Marine Bioacoustics

The Centre for Marine Science and Technology at Curtin University offers 4 PhD stipends in marine bioacoustics. The  stipends are part of a 4-year research project entitled “The Quieter Western Indian Ocean” (QWIO). Each stipend includes an international tuition fee scholarship for 3.5 years. In addition, the stipend covers annual living costs (total €31 thousand). Students would ideally be citizens of Comoros, France, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania, or South Africa. Cultural Survival — Indigenous Community Media Fund

The Indigenous Community Media Fund provides opportunities for Indigenous community radio stations and media outlets to strengthen their broadcast infrastructure and systems.  Indigenous community radio stations can apply for a grant of up to US$6 thousand. Radio networks represented by at least three or more Indigenous radio stations can apply for funding of up to US$12 thousand. Proposed projects must be completed within a period of 6 to 10 months. Indigenous communities in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, India, Philippines, Indonesia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Malaysia are eligible to apply. Horticulture Innovation Lab — Horticulture Research Projects West Africa

The Horticulture Innovation Lab seeks applications for West Africa regional horticulture research projects. The Horticulture Innovation Lab is currently soliciting applications from regionally-based organizations to conduct research to improve the affordability and availability of healthy diets (in particular consumption of horticulture crops) in the West Africa sub-Region. The selected research projects will be funded at US$250 thousand up to US$750 thousand.
