The Swedish Institute Management Program (SIMP) seeks responsible leadership and sustainable business practices. Applicants should be interested in topics such as business impact on the environment, diversity and inclusion in the workplace as well as financial strategies for sustainable development. Entrepreneurs between 25-45 years old from Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda or Zambia are invited to apply. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers reporting grants to journalists in South Africa to support the production of in-depth stories on South Africa’s Road to Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions. The Earth Journalism Network aims to support the production of stories that raise awareness about South Africa’s net zero target and drive conversation among communities and policy makers at the local, national, and regional level. Kevin Richardson Foundation — Preserving African Wildlife Species
The Kevin Richardson Foundation funds the work of organizations who preserve African wildlife species, protect wildlife habitats, and reduce conflict between humans and wild animals. A wide variety of proposals will be considered, including academic research and rescue and rehabilitation projects. The Foundation awards up to US$ 25 thousand to successful applicants. Projects based in southern Africa are favored, however all projects based in Africa will be considered. Applicants must be a registered non-profit organization or trust. European Commission — Zukunftskolleg Konnect Fellowships for Early-Career Researchers
The European Commission, through the Euraxess initiative, offers the Zukunftskolleg Konnect Fellowships to support early-career researchers from Africa, Asia and Latin America. ZUKOnnect aims to extend research networks and environments through on-campus research stays at thirteen departments of the University of Konstanz. Subject areas include ecology, limnology, ecotoxicology, botany, amongst many others. The fellowship offers a stipend of €1,200/month for doctoral students and €2,000/month for postdoctoral researchers, as well as travel expenses and access to resources and events. British Ecological Society — Grants for Ecologists in Africa 2023
The British Ecological Society (BES) makes grants for ecologists in Africa to carry out innovative ecological research. Applicants must be scientists and citizens of a country in Africa or its associated islands; have at least an MSc or equivalent degree; be working for a university or research institution in Africa that provides basic research facilities; and carry out the research in a country in Africa or its associated islands. The maximum value of a grant is £8 thousand for research. An additional sum up to £2 thousand may be requested to fund travel to help grantees develop connections with other ecologists outside their usual peer groups. The African Leadership Forum (ALF) invited applications for the Youth Leadership Competition. The theme is “Promoting African intra-trade to unlock agricultural potential in Africa”. GSMA — Innovation Fund for Anticipatory Humanitarian Action
GSMA Innovation Fund for Anticipatory Humanitarian Action seeks to help accelerate the testing, adoption and scalability of digital innovations that leverage mobile digital technology to help anticipate potential humanitarian impacts and enable effective early response. Successful projects will receive an equity-free grant of between £100 thousand and £250 thousand to scale their innovation over a 15 to 18 month period. InfoNile — Editors’ Biodiversity Program
InfoNile invites applications from editors from Uganda for an editors’ biodiversity training program. In addition to training with biodiversity and journalism experts, the program will incorporate field visits to conservation projects and natural sites. The workshop will have a focus on reporting on wildlife trafficking and poaching. After the training, editors will pair up with reporters in their media houses to report an in-depth story on biodiversity and/or wildlife trafficking to be published in their media houses, supported by small story grants.
