Earth Journalism Network — Stop Spillover Story Grants
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers story grants to journalists from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Vietnam to report on viral zoonotic diseases and efforts to prevent their spillover from animals to humans. EJN aims to support the production of stories that raise awareness about viral zoonotic diseases and drive conversation among communities and policy makers. Applications are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio). Freelance reporters and staff reporters from international, national, local or community-based outlets are eligible. BioInnovate Africa — Collaboration Projects in Eastern Africa
BioInnovate Africa supports scientists in eastern Africa to link biologically based research ideas, inventions, and technologies to business and the market. BioInnovate invites concept notes to co-develop value-added products (goods and services) from biological resources, such as agro-produce, biological waste conversion, or biologically based healthcare products. Target beneficiaries are scientists working in universities, research institutes, private sector companies as well as smallholder farmers and communities in Burundi, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. International Development Research Centre — Strengthening Research in West Africa
The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) calls for proposals to support the strengthening of national research and innovation funding agencies in West Africa. The Science Granting Councils Initiative invites proposals from organizations (including think tanks, institutes, universities and agencies) based in Africa Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone. Organizations should have proven experience and track records in areas such as public sector science, technology and innovation; strengthening organizational capacity; and national science, among others. The JRS Biodiversity Foundation aims to increase the access to and the use of information for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa. The current call for proposals requests multi-year projects focused on biodiversity data, knowledge, and information services related to freshwater biodiversity and pollinator biodiversity in Eastern and Southern Africa. Preference is for projects that can grow to larger scale, or that can be transferred across geographic regions or across organizational and institutional contexts. InfoNile invites applications for training, workshop and mentorship on Reporting on Rivers and Biodiversity in the Nile Basin. The weeklong workshop in Uganda will feature presentations, field trips, discussions, practical sessions, and group activities. Successful journalists will receive transport to Uganda and back to their home country, accommodation including meals for the duration of the workshop, and grants to produce their stories. The Biodiversity Partners Program (BiPP) is a training course with focus on biodiversity regeneration and nature based solutions with the aim to support the implementation of pro-nature projects. The program is for organizations (companies, institutions, etc.) and entrepreneurs who develop or support projects that will have an impact on biodiversity. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks Expressions of Interest for the pre-selection of local partners for the USAID/Uganda Biodiversity for Resilience (B4R) Activity in Uganda.
