The Borlaug Fellowship Program supports short-term research projects to improve agricultural productivity, economic development, and food security in over developing countries. The program offers training and collaborative opportunities for agricultural research, international agricultural economics, leadership, and policy. The program lists the eligible countries, and the research priorities for each of them. Fellows work one-on-one with a U.S. mentor who will coordinate the training program. After completion of the 6 months fellowship, the mentor will visit the fellow’s home institution to continue collaboration. USDA will select U.S. host institutions and mentors for each fellow. The Canon Collins Trust offers scholarships to students from Southern African countries to attend masters degree programs at certain UK universities. The Trust offers one-year scholarships for students studying justice, including politics and the environment, among others. Applicants must be nationals of Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, or Zimbabwe. European Commission — Conservation of Forest Ecosystems in West Africa
The European Commission seeks to enhance climate resilience in Sierra Leone and Guinea. Through this call for proposals the EC invites projects that aim to protect the Outamba-Kilimi National Park (Sierra Leone), Kuru Hills Forest Reserve (Sierra Leone), Pinselli and Soyah Classified Forests (Guinea) and the buffer zones and forest corridors that inter-connect them. Grants requested under this call for proposals must fall between €1.45 million and €2.9 million. EEP Africa invites innovative project developers to submit applications for early stage clean energy projects in active development phase in Southern and East Africa. Applicants can apply for grants between €200 thousand and €500 thousand (minimum required co-financing is 30%). Eligibility extends to companies, start-ups and social enterprises with early-stage projects from Botswana, Burundi, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Climate Tracker — Sustainable Energy in Africa
Climate Tracker seeks applicants for a 8-week-long investigative reporting scholarship program. Fellows will receive training on climate journalism and have the chance to refine their journalism skills. Six African journalists will be selected to cover the Sustainable Energy for All Forum in Rwanda (May 2020). #VALUE4HERConnect is Africa’s first agribusiness intelligence platform aimed at facilitating growth and development of women-owned agribusiness enterprises. The platform calls for registrations of women agri-businesses who wish to do business and trade in African and global agricultural markets. The aim is to create a network of women in agribusiness, increase information flow within women agribusiness networks and with their markets, supply chains and other service providers, including investment and financing partners. African Academy of Sciences — Intra-Africa Research Collaboration
The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) announces the second phase of the Developing Excellence in Leadership, Training and Science in Africa (DELTAS Africa) program. DELTAS Africa funds networks/consortia led by Africa-based scientists to foster intra-Africa collaboration, improving research environments and training researchers to conduct relevant, locally contextualized studies. Key research priorities include the multidisciplinary nexus of human health in connection with climate change, among others.
