European Commission — Climate Change Champions

The European Commission seeks to support South African Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the fight against climate change. Grants are intended for projects focusing on youth participation, gender equality, and capacity building activities for climate change mitigation and adaptation actions. Grants under this call must fall between the minimum of €300 thousand and the maximum of €700 thousand. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations legally registered in South Africa. Eisenhower Fellowships — Women’s Leadership Program

Eisenhower Fellowships’ Women’s Leadership Program seeks talented women leaders with a proven track record of achievement. The program will take place in the USA during seven weeks in October-November 2020. Fellows receive an intensive and individually-designed program in their professional field. Applications are invited from individuals ages 32-45 from a wide range of professions in Africa. The application deadline is 24 February 2020. Details here

Blue Action Fund — Adaptation to Climate Change in the Western Indian Ocean

The Blue Action Fund announces a call for grant proposals focusing on ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) to climate change in the Western Indian Ocean. Grants are made to NGOs with projects that focus on protecting Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and supporting sustainable livelihoods in coastal communities. The Fund aims to support projects protecting and restoring adaptation-relevant coastal ecosystems to reduce climate change-related risks for vulnerable coastal communities. The fund will allocate €2-5 million per project. Applicants are expected to provide substantial co-funding for the project. NGOs with projects which are situated in Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, and Tanzania are eligible to apply. The application deadline is 24 May 2020. Find the call

U.S. Agency for International Development — Health, Ecosystems and Agriculture for Resilient, Thriving Societies

The Office of Forestry and Biodiversity in USAID’s Bureau for Economic Growth, Education and Environment seeks transformational solutions to cross-sectoral development challenges in biodiverse landscapes. Sectors that may comprise HEARTH concepts are: biodiversity conservation, health, food security (agriculture and nutrition), governance, economic development and livelihoods, water supply and sanitation, education, modern energy solutions, forest management and restoration, and climate resilience. Eligible priority countries include Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and South America Regional; Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Madagascar, Tanzania, and Central Africa Regional; Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Vietnam and the Regional Development Mission for Asia. U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) — Resilient Governance in Niger

USAID invites applications to the Resilient Governance in Niger (RGN) Activity. This cooperative agreement for qualified entities aims to improve the service delivery and citizen accountability, stymie community resilience, and increase vulnerability to violent extremism. Themes related to this call include water and sanitation, agriculture, and environmental degradation. Qualified U.S. and non-U.S. organizations (other than those from foreign policy restricted countries) are eligible to apply. The award ceiling is US$19.8 million. Flemish Inter-University Council — International Training Programme on ‘eR-Biostat’

VLIR-UOS is the secretariat of Flemish universities for development cooperation, with funding by Belgian Development Cooperation. VLIR-UOS announces the International Training Programme on ‘eR-Biostat’ that will take place at Hasselt University, Belgium. The program aims to train the participants in using and developing a new E-learning system in Biostatistics/Statistics. Eligibility for scholarships extends to applicants in 31 developing countries of Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. COLEACP — Strengthening Sanitary and Phytosanitary Systems of the ACP Horticultural Sector

COLEACP is a non-profit association whose main purpose is to support the development of sustainable and competitive agriculture and agribusiness in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries. COLEACP seeks expressions of interest for “Analytical and technical information support services in crop production and crop protection to facilitate compliance of the ACP horticultural industry with the requirements of domestic and international markets.” The selected applicant will be required to cover laboratory and analytical support, and the provision of technical information and advice in crop production and crop protection in ACP horticulture. ENEA Consulting — Support for Energy Initiatives in Africa and Asia

ENEA Access offers 50 to 60 days of professional consulting services on a pro-bono basis. The Energy Access Booster is open to entrepreneurs based in Sub-Saharan Africa or Asia. Activities that can be considered for ENEA’s support include feasibility studies, market and business models, implementation of pilot projects, and others. Selected entrepreneurs receive a financial contribution of up to US$ 50 thousand. Projects must clearly contribute to the reduction of poverty and/or climate change as a result of improved access to energy. Global LEAP Awards — Solar E-Waste Challenge

The Global LEAP Solar E-Waste Challenge seeks innovative approaches to e-waste management in the off-grid solar sector in Africa. Funding is available for recycling and e-waste management companies who work with solar lanterns, solar home systems (SHSs), and solar-powered appliances. Awards will range from US$50 thousand to US$300 thousand. The competition is open to solar companies, suppliers or technology service providers in Sub-Saharan Africa. European Commission — WASH & Management of Natural Resources in Namibia

The European Commission aims to strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations in Namibia. The objective of this call is to improve the participation of CSOs in the implementation of relevant public policies and programs. Priority sectors unter this call include (1) Water Sanitation and Hygiene, and (2) Management of Natural Resources. Grants requested must fall between €250 thousand and €600 thousand.
