EPFL’s seed money grants are allocated to promote the creation and launch of new projects of scientific cooperation with partners from emerging and developing countries. The problems addressed in the proposal must be related to development issues and to the main challenges faced by the respective emerging and developing country. Project categories may include one or more areas of interest relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory. The maximum funding per project is CHF 20 thousand per year. The Gbowee Peace Foundation awards scholarships for postgraduate masters at the University of Dundee (Scotland). Subjects areas include environmental science, energy petroleum and mineral law and policy, and others. The Africa Scholarships are open to female students who are currently Liberian, Nigerian or Ghanaian nationals permanently resident in these countries. Belgium’s University Commission for Development — Student Outreach Projects 2019
The student outreach program offers students in the Wallonia region of Belgium the opportunity to raise awareness and organize activities related to development aid issues. The ARES program offers financial support between € 1,500 – 4,500 per outreach project. Past projects include the organization of an ‘awareness day around the theme of agribusiness’ and a ‘sensitization day for graduates on socio-environmental conflicts and management of natural resources in Peru’. Consultative Group to Assist the Poor — Picturing Financial Inclusion in Africa
Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) launches its 13th Annual Photos and Videos Contest 2018. The contest seeks striking photographs and short videos that tell the story of how financial services empower poor people and communities in Africa. The grand winner receives a US$ 2,000 gift certificate for photography or video equipment. The 2018 CGAP Photo Contest is open to all photographers and videographers. Climate Justice Resilience Fund — Grants for Climate Change Adaptation
The Climate Justice Resilience Fund seeks grants applications for community-led, social justice approaches to climate change adaptation and resilience-building. Grants are made to women, youth, and indigenous peoples to create and share their own solutions for resilience. CJRF grants focus on four interrelated issues connected which climate change: (1) Water Access; (2) Food Security; (3) Sustainable Livelihoods; and (4) Migration and Relocation. The CJRF grantmaking strategic framework prioritizes multi-year grants and grants larger than US$100 thousand. Non-profit organizations from Alaska, Kenya, Tanzania, Bangladesh, and the India are invited to apply. TWIGA — Hackathon for Environmental Sensors
TWIGA is a 4-year project under EU Horizon2020 aimed to transform weather water data into value-added information services. To foster involvement by young scientists and entrepreneurs, TWIGA will organize five hackathons to develop solutions for the agriculture, water, energy, disaster response and risk management sector. The first call is open to teams from Ghana. Similar hackathons will be organized in other parts of Africa later. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will receive €1500, €1000, and €500. Euromena Consulting — Awards for MENA Start-ups
Euromena Consulting launches the Euromena Awards – MENA Edition. The awards are intended for companies or innovative projects with social, economic, environmental and/or societal impact. World Bank and RUFORUM — Strengthening Higher Agricultural Education in Africa
The World Bank and the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) jointly launch a Call for Proposals for a regional project for Strengthening Higher Agricultural Education for Agri-food Systems Transformation in Africa (SHAEA). The Project will support the governments of participating African countries to collectively build capacity and knowledge in selected key areas. Universities from Kenya, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique are eligible to apply if they meet the criteria detailed in the call for proposals.
