Government of China — Masters Scholarships for Africans

The Government of China offers scholarship to enable African students to study in China in the 2018/2019 Academic Year. The scholarships are intended for Master and Doctoral Programmes including one at the China Agricultural University, and many others. Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies — Small Research Grants

The SMAIAS is an Independent Research Organisation which seeks to influence land and natural resources policies in Africa through multi-disciplinary science research, policy dialogues, and training. The Small Research Grants program is intended to support research projects with budgets of US$2,500 for dissertation writing. Eligibility extends to emerging young African scholars from agriculture and other related professional fields whose research is aimed at helping to inform policies and practices that improve the lives of marginalised groups who depend on agriculture as a source of their livelihoods. University of Michigan — Conference on Sustainability and Development

The University of Michigan seeks abstracts for presentations, workshops, and applications for financial assistance from students and scholars from lower-income countries for participation in the international conference on Sustainability and Development (9-11 November 2018). The conference themes are Sustainable Development and Indigenous Peoples, Climate Change, Agriculture, Water, Sanitation, and Health, Biodiversity and Conservation, Energy Provision and Access, among others. European Bank for Reconstruction and Development — Central European Initiative, Know-How Exchange 2018

The Know-how Exchange Program co-finances the transfer of know-how and best practices from EU to non-EU member countries of the Central European Initiative (CEI). Thematic areas in the current call by KEP-Italy include energy, environment, and agriculture and rural development (among others). Proposals are submitted by organizations in CEI member states which are also member states of the European Union for knowledge transfers to non-EU member states of the CEI. The non-EU members of the CEI are Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine. The maximum grant is €40 thousand. African Center for Agro-Ecology and Livelihood Systems — PhD and MSc Scholarships

Uganda Martyrs University in conjunction with African Center for Agro-Ecology and Livelihood Systems (ACALISE) invites applications for PhD and MSc ACALISE National/International Scholarships. Programmes include PhD in Agro-Ecology and Livelihood Systems, MSc in Agro-Ecology, and others. Applicants must be citizens of a country in Sub-Saharan Africa who are currently enrolled on any of the ACALISE Programmes. The PhD scholarship will cover full tuition fees, accommodation and book allowance. The MSc scholarship is a contribution towards tuition fees. The closing date for applications is 16 July 2018. U.S. Department of State — YSEALI Academic Fellows

The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is a program of the U.S. government to support bright young leaders ages 18-35 in the ASEAN countries. The YSEALI Academic Fellowships offer support to participate in a five-week institute on the campus of a U.S. university or college in one of the following topics: civil engagement; environmental issues; or social entrepreneurship and economic development. The fellowships include leadership development, an educational study tour, local community service activities, and opportunities to engage with peers in the USA. Applications are invited from current undergraduate or graduate students — as well as recent graduates — in Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Application deadlines vary by country, Cambodia’s application process is currently open with deadline on 29 May 2018. U.S. Agency for International Development — Nutrition Innovations in Complex Environments

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks organizations to co-create, co-design, co-invest, and collaborate on research and development innovations to prevent and treat nutrition vulnerabilities in complex environments. Areas of interest include innovations to maximize impact across sectors, including health, agriculture and humanitarian assistance. GHR Foundation — BridgeBuilder Competition

The GHR Foundation invites proposals that address urgent global challenges in radically new ways. The BridgeBuilder Challenge to invite solutions that connect peace, prosperity, and the planet. Submissions should target a specific, pressing, and solvable need across two or more of these themes. The competition is open to non-profit and for-profit organizations established for at least one year. Proposed projects should not be longer than three years. Awards are up to US$500 thousand. Additionally, the winners will be eligible for partnership with GHR Foundation and potential connections to other funder networks. Submissions are due by 04 June 2018. Find out how to participate

Arab Council for the Social Sciences — Postdoctoral Fellowships 2018-2019

The Arab Council for the Social Sciences announces its fifth cycle of postdoctoral fellowships for junior Arab scholars. The program is open to individuals who completed their PhD within the past three years, and who are nationals or residents of countries in the League of Arab States. The fellowship provides for full costs over nine months in the proposed country/countries of residence where the fellow will reside. The thematic focus is open. The program has a special interest in attracting foreign-trained Arab scholars back to the region.The application deadline is 15 June 2018. Link

Unilever — Young Entrepreneurs Awards 2018

The Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards invite nominations of individuals ages 18 to 35 anywhere in the world who have initiatives, products, or services that address sustainability challenges in four categories. The categories are “farm to table” (sustainable agriculture and food and drink nutrition); opportunities for women; waste management; and water management. The awards will be made to individuals who are putting their ideas into action, i.e., who are already having an impact. Unilever will recognise up to eight winners in 2018, each of whom will be awarded a cash prize in addition to one-to-one mentoring support for a year. The overall winner will receive the “HRH The Prince of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Prize” of €50 thousand. The deadline for nominations is 30 June 2018. Link
