SEED Foundation — Agricultural Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa 2018

The SEED Foundation supports French nonprofit organizations in partnership with nonprofit organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa for innovative solutions that address food security. Projects can address agricultural practices, farming knowledge and capacity, local agricultural products, etc. Grants range from €7 thousand to €15 thousand, up to 70% of project costs. Swissuniversities Development and Cooperation Network — Consortia for North-South Education and Research (2nd Call)

The Swissuniversities Development and Cooperation Network (SUDAC) calls for various types of Swiss higher education institutions to partner with each other and with partners in the Global South to develop Consortia for Education and Research (COFER). COFER will aim for stronger integration of research, education, and implementation through new collaborative networks oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Each COFER must address at least two SDGs; provide at least 50% matching funds; and provide funding for partners in the Global South. Israeli Agency for International Development — Professional Course on Agribusiness

Israel’s Agency for International Development (MASHAV) offers professional short courses in Israel in subject areas that include agriculture, energy, health, education, and social development. MASHAV offers a limited number of scholarships to cover course fees, accommodation, medical insurance, and other expenses in Israel. The course “Agribusiness: A Tool for the Empowerment of Rural Women” addresses gender equality and the empowerment of women, as well as economic and social development strategies in rural areas. The course is for policymakers and professionals of the public and private sector, involved in the implementation of agricultural and rural development projects. ETH Zurich — Seed Grants for Swiss-Asian Research Collaboration 2018

In partnership with Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), ETH Zurich promotes scientific cooperation with key institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. ETH Zurich currently calls for proposals from Swiss researchers with partners in China (incl. Hong Kong and Taiwan), Japan, South Korea, and the ASEAN region. Michigan State University — Agricultural Development Studies and Research 2018

With funding from the U.S. government, the Borlaug Higher Education Agricultural Research and Development (BHEARD) Program is implemented by Michigan State University. The program supports long-term training of agricultural researchers at the master’s and doctoral levels. BHEARD invites applicants from Mali for study in the USA or other selected countries. The announcement identifies the participating Mali institutions and the eligible fields of study related to agriculture, meteorology, and climate change. The application deadline is 01 January 2018. Israel’s Agency for International Development (MASHAV) offers professional short courses in Israel in subject areas that include agriculture, energy, health, education, and social development. MASHAV offers a limited number of scholarships to cover course fees, accommodation, medical insurance, and other expenses in Israel. The international course on “Agricultural Development in Arid Regions” will focus on the efficient use, protection and development of water resources, management of salinity, and creation of long-term economically and environmentally sound operations. The course is geared towards professionals from governmental and non-governmental institutions, universities, research institutes and/or private sector involved in agricultural development in arid and semi-arid regions. Agropolis Fondation — Call for Proposals “Young Scientist”

The Agropolis Foundation (France) promotes interdisciplinary and integrated plant biology, ecology, and sustainable agriculture addressing development issues in the global North and South. The Call will fund research projects of young researchers from all around the world focusing on any of the thematic research domains covered by the Agropolis Fondation. Shell International — Energy, Water and Food Challenge

The Shell Ideas360 competition invites students from all around the world to develop ideas to tackle the pressures on the world’s Food, Water and Energy resources. The theme of the competition is “People & Planet – the Energy, Water and Food Challenge”. It is open to students currently studying as a full time bachelor’s or master’s student at a recognized university. The finalist teams will be assigned a Shell Mentor to help them develop their ideas and fly to Make the Future, London (in July 2018). The winning team will win a National Geographic Adventure. BioInnovate Africa — Improve Productivity of Smallholder Farmers in East Africa

The BioInnovate Africa Programme wants to improve productivity of smallholder farmers and communities in eastern Africa through value addition and agro/bioprocessing. Thematic areas include (1) Value addition to agroproduce; (2) Agro/biowaste conversion; and (3) Bioinnovation policy analysis and development. Grants range from US$ 250 – US$ 750 thousand for a maximum period of three years. Eligibility extends to scientists, researchers and innovators from Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. The application deadline is 02 February 2018. Details

World Academy of Sciences — Visiting Experts Program

The Elsevier Foundation and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) are partners in the Visiting Expert Program in sustainability science. The program supports visits of distinguished scientists to institutions in developing countries, with a focus on 48 Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Host institutions in eligible countries can invite distinguished scientists to collaborate in research and training. The visit should provide a minimum stay of two weeks at the host institution.
