International Plant Nutrition Institute — Scholar Awards for Agricultural Graduate Students 2018

The IPNI Scholar Awards are open to applicants who are graduate students attending a degree-granting institution located in any country with an IPNI program. Applicants in Africa can apply if their research connects with international programs, even if their countries are not in IPNI (see the special criteria for Africans). Awards of US$2 thousand are available to students in the disciplines of agronomy, horticulture, ecology, soil fertility, soil chemistry, crop physiology, and other areas related to plant nutrition. U.S. Agency for International Development — Food Security and Development

The United States Agency for International Development invites applications for funding from organizations that develop innovative technologies, data and methods that can help to better understand food security and development problems. Successful applicants are expected to carry out activities that develop, test or apply innovative methods for monitoring or evaluating Feed the Future/Global Food Security Strategy activities or programs. Funding is up to $1 million per project over a three-year period. Eligibility extends to U.S. and non-U.S., non-profit or for-profit non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international organizations. Closing date for applications is 12 October 2018. UK Research Councils — Awards for Cutting-Edge Research

The Global Challenges Research Fund invites applications to support cutting-edge research that addresses the challenges faced by developing countries. Examples of thematic areas include secure and resilient food systems; affordable and sustainable energy; environmental change; and others. Partnership building between UK research organisations and partners in developing countries is an essential part of this call. Conservation Agriculture Network in South-East Asia — Grants for Agroforestry

The CANSEA scientific platform is a network of research partners keen to implement agro-ecology and conservation agriculture in Southeast Asia. CANSEA announces its third call for proposals to promote and strengthen conservation agriculture in the four CANSEA member countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Grants are up to US$40 thousand. CANSEA actively encourages co-funding. All recognized institutions in the CANSEA member countries are eligible to apply. INOMICS — Conference Grant Contest 2017

INOMICS makes grants to students and researchers to attend conferences. The grant is $500 to young researchers to travel to an academic conference of their choice. Eligible conferences for the Contest is any event posted on https://inomics.com/top/events (most of which are business related but useful for some fields and categories of the Terra Viva Grants Directory, e.g. economic development). École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne — Seed Money Grants 2018

EPFL’s seed money grants are allocated to promote the creation and launch of new projects of scientific cooperation with partners from emerging and developing countries. The problems addressed in the proposal must be related to development issues and to the main challenges faced by the respective emerging and developing country. Project categories may include one or more areas of interest relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory. The maximum funding per project is CHF 20 thousand per year. Euromena Consulting — Awards for African Start-ups

Euromena Consulting launches the first edition of its Euromena Awards. The awards are intended for companies or innovative projects with social, economic, environmental and/or societal impact. Proposed projects should be related to Africa and/or be established in the region. The three winners will receive coaching and support for 6 months and share a €10 thousand financial reward. UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development — Training Course on Green Industry

The UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development is organizing a training course on Green Industrial Development in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain (3-7 December 2017). The course is targeted at policymakers from Arab and African countries. Participants will get a better understanding of the most pressing environmental trends and issues and look at energy efficiency, renewable energy and emissions abatement, among other themes. Inspire Africa — Training Program for African Entrepreneurs

Inspire Africa​’s Train-the-Trainers is funded by the US Embassy Consulate (Lagos, Nigeria) and designed to empower young business leaders across Nigeria, Ghana, and Tanzania. Thematic areas may fall into one or more categories of the Terra Viva Grants Directory. Participation is free and accommodation, food and transportation during program will be provided for all selected participants. Global Social Venture Competition — Competition 2018

The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) is a partnership of business schools in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with mentoring, exposure, and funding to support their social ventures. Past winners include plans for water supply, energy micro-credit, agricultural technology, ecological building materials, and other environmental themes.
