UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development — Training Course on Green Industry

The UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development is organizing a training course on Green Industrial Development in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain (3-7 December 2017). The course is targeted at policymakers from Arab and African countries. Participants will get a better understanding of the most pressing environmental trends and issues and look at energy efficiency, renewable energy and emissions abatement, among other themes. Inspire Africa — Training Program for African Entrepreneurs

Inspire Africa​’s Train-the-Trainers is funded by the US Embassy Consulate (Lagos, Nigeria) and designed to empower young business leaders across Nigeria, Ghana, and Tanzania. Thematic areas may fall into one or more categories of the Terra Viva Grants Directory. Participation is free and accommodation, food and transportation during program will be provided for all selected participants. Global Social Venture Competition — Competition 2018

The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) is a partnership of business schools in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with mentoring, exposure, and funding to support their social ventures. Past winners include plans for water supply, energy micro-credit, agricultural technology, ecological building materials, and other environmental themes. The GSVC will award cash prizes up to US$40 thousand. The deadline for the first entry round in all regions is 04 December 2017. About the Competition

Her Network — Woman of the Year Award 2018

The Woman of the Year Award is for an outstanding woman who is positively affecting lives through her work. The award categories include agriculture and 20 others. European Commission — Agricultural Growth in Zimbabwe

The EC announces funding to strengthen Zimbabwe’s agricultural research, education, and extension services. The lead applicant must be a nonprofit organization established in Zimbabwe; in countries eligible under the European Development Fund; in a member state of the European Union; or a contracting party to the agreement on the European Economic Areas. Grants will range from €5 million to €6 million, varying with cost shares, for projects of 36 to 54 months. Reference EuropeAid/157721/DD/ACT/ZW. International Network for Government Science Advice — Research in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals

The International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA) is offering six professional development and research grants for 2018-2019 on the role of scientific evidence and advice in support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Grants of up to to €15 thousand per project will support early-to-mid career researchers or policy practitioners on this theme in eligible low- and middle-income countries. Applicants must hold a PhD at time of application, or have at least five years full-time equivalent experience in research or as a public policy professional (e.g. advice, analysis, implementation, evaluation). Islamic Development Bank — Prize for Women’s Contribution to Development

The IDB Prize for Women’s Contribution to Development draws international attention to the vital role women play in developing their communities and the world. The theme for the 1439H – 2018 Prize is “Women’s Contribution to Promoting Peace and Stability.” (Note: This could possibly include thematic areas important in the Terra Viva Grants Directory.) The Prize consists of two cash awards: US$50 thousand for a woman or a group of women; and US$100 thousand for an organization. Eligibility extends to women engaged in activities and /or residing in one of the IDB member countries, or in a Muslim community in non-member countries. U.S. National Academy of Sciences — Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research, Cycle 7

PEER invites scientists in developing countries to work with U.S. collaborators in research and capacity building on priority topics that include environmental contaminants, agricultural productivity and food security, biodiversity conservation, water security, low-carbon development, fisheries assessments, and others. The priorities are different for each PEER focus area (i.e., varying by regions and countries). Applicants must be based at academic institutions, non-profit organizations, or government-managed research laboratories, centers, or institutes in the eligible countries. Association of African Universities — Small Grants for Theses and Dissertations

The AAU is pleased to announce the 2017 session of its Small Grants for Theses and Dissertations. The programme aims to facilitate timely completion of post-graduate research in subjects that include agriculture and food security; environment and climate; and others. Applicants should be post-graduate students enrolled in AAU member institutions. Post-graduate students who are lecturers in AAU member institutions, and female candidates, are especially encouraged to apply.
