Every two years, the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) awards nine prizes of US$10 thousand each to individual scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least 10 years. Zayed Sustainability Prize — Call for Applications
The Zayed Sustainability Prize recognizes achievements that are driving impact, innovation and inspiration in environmental stewardship and global sustainability. The Prize is awarded across several categories: (i) Health; (ii) Food; (iii) Energy; (iv) Water; and (v) Global high schools (i.e., high schools in six world regions). Kubota Fund — Academic Training Program
The Kubota Fund announces a grant program for research analysts, trainees and students from developing countries who join academic or training programs provided by research/educational institutes or private enterprises located in Japan. The Fund provides financial aid (from ¥80 thousand to ¥100 thousand per month) to students, trainees, and researchers for pursuing academic degrees or research at educational or research institutes and business enterprises. Training or research on technologies for developing countries (especially civil engineering, electricity, machinery, agriculture, environment, energy, development economy) at companies or organizations in Japan is supported. UN Trust Fund — End Violence against Women
The UN Trust Fund seeks proposals for initiatives to end violence against women and girls. Projects supported include projects in climate change-affected areas, and projects focused on protecting and empowering women living in rural areas. Grants are between US$150 thousand to US$1 million for four years. The UN Trust Fund only accepts applications from civil society organizations and women’s rights organizations with a track record of working on the elimination of violence against women and girls. RBC Foundation — Tech for Nature
The RBC Foundation accepts applications for its 2024 grant program. RBC Tech for Nature supports new ideas, technologies, and partnerships to solve pressing environmental challenges. Applicants can submit new technologies to solve issues related to climate change, food security, air quality, energy needs, and access to clean water. Eligible applicants are charities and nonprofit organizations in communities where the Royal Bank of Canada has a business presence. Applications are being accepted until 06 May 2024. Environmental Systems Research Institute — Esri Conservation Grant Program
Esri is an international supplier of Geographic Information System (GIS) software, web GIS, and geodatabase management applications. Esri offers free or discounted GIS software, hardware, data, training, and services to support groups and individuals working for social and environmental benefit. Esri’s Conservation Grant Program makes GIS grants to non-profit organizations, programs, and individuals active in public service and nature conservation in any country. Nestlé Foundation — Human Nutrition in Developing Countries
The Nestlé Foundation supports research in human nutrition in low-income and lower middle-income countries. In relation to agriculture, the Foundation will consider research on food policy, food production, and food technology if the intervention has high potential for improved nutritional status and public health. The Foundation offers training grants, pilot grants, and full project grants. Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research — Food Systems Accelerator
The CGIAR Food Systems Accelerator aims to support agribusiness with eco-friendly agricultural practices. The four priority innovation themes are: Mechanization and irrigation; Conservation agriculture; Nutrition-sensitive climate smart agriculture; and Agricultural Risk Management. Supported innovations should be designed to benefit smallholder farmers in East and Southern Africa. The program provides technical assistance and access to investors and corporate partners. Four companies will receive US$20 thousand. Applicants must be a for-profit company operating in Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, or Zimbabwe. Marc and Nora Van Montagu Fund — Fellowship Program for Women Researchers in Africa
The Open Doors Fellowship Program (ODFP) targets post-doctoral and mid-career women researchers conducting agricultural research in Africa. Fellows receive financial incentives to enhance their scientific visibility and a research stay in Belgium. Applicants’ research fields must be plant breeding, agrobiotechnology, molecular biology and genetics, microbiology, chemical ecology, plant & soil health, livestock or aquaculture. Mind & Life — Community Grants
The Contemplative Changemaking Grants support the use of contemplative approaches by grassroots changemakers addressing urgent community needs. Grants will fund projects that support changemakers in transforming lives and communities. Funding is up to US$10 thousand for a 2-year period. Applicants must be individuals applying in their own name, or on behalf of a local community-based nonprofit organization (including universities) or social enterprise.
