The IRD announces funding to support multidisciplinary international teams (laboratoires mixtes internationaux, LMI) to undertake research that corresponds to IRD’s thematic priorities. These priorities include agronomy and biodiversity; bio-invasions and climate change; sustainable urban development; the ocean-climate interface; micro-biomes in agro-ecosystems; management of water resources; coastal and marine management; and others. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency — Grants to U.S. Universities for Research on Global Sustainability 2017
The EPA’s 14th annual P3 Awards (People, Prosperity, and the Planet) will fund research projects in water and wastewater, energy, built environment, materials and chemicals, and reduced food waste. Grants are up to US$15 thousand for one year (Phase I). Winners in Phase I will be eligible to apply for larger grants to follow. The competition is open to U.S. institutions of higher education to support teams of undergraduate and/or graduate students. The application deadline is 03 February 2017. Link
Central European University — Visiting Fellowships 2017-2018
Central European University (CEU) announces two Visiting Fellowship Programs in academic year 2017-18. The Faculty Development Fellowship is available to applicants from selected academic institutions in Kyrgyzstan, Palestine, and Myanmar. The Research Excellence Fellowship is offered to academics employed in higher education institutions and/or academic research institutions in any country of the “Global South.” The subjects for fellows include environmental studies and energy studies — among many others. Eligible applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent, and should be nationals of eligible developing countries. Fellowships cover travel costs, accommodation, and a monthly stipend. 10YFP Trust Fund — Sustainable Food Systems
The 10YFP Sustainable Food Systems Program aims to accelerate the shift towards more sustainable food systems in developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The program focuses on awareness raising, capacity development, facilitating access to knowledge and information, and strengthening partnerships all along the food value chain. Preference is for projects that have complementary funding, and projects being implemented in multiple countries. Grants are US$50 thousand to US$80 thousand for Immediate Action Projects; grants are US$100 thousand to US$200 thousand for Strategic Impact Projects. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Grants to Combat Wildlife Trafficking
The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) welcomes project proposals to combat wildlife trafficking. Priorities include strengthening CITES implementation in key regions and countries; fighting corruption and poor governance regarding wildlife protection; increasing cooperation among African and Asian countries involved in transnational wildlife crime; working for behavioral change in support of wildlife protection; and conservation of species endangered by illegal trade. Projects are up to US$100 thousand for one or two years, although higher amounts will be considered. Eligibility for funding extends worldwide to individuals, non-profit and for-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, and multi-national secretariats. Rolex Awards — Rolex Awards for Young Leaders 2018
Five Rolex Awards will be offered to young leaders (ages 18 to 30) anywhere in the world who have ground-breaking proposals or initiatives that will help expand knowledge of the world and improve the quality of life on the planet. Applications can be submitted in three categories: the environment, applied science and technology, or exploration. Projects should be planned for the future, or be only partially completed. Each winner will receive CHF 100 thousand in order to help her/him with project implementation. The application deadline is 30 June 2017. Link
International Council for Science — IRDR Young Scientists Program
The International Council for Science, in collaboration with several partner organizations, invites applications for the IRDR (Integrated Research on Disaster Risk) Young Scientists Program. The program offers scientists under age 40 of any nationality the opportunity to engage with a global network of professionals and practitioners. Benefits include international linkages and the possibility to be invited for additional training. KR Foundation — Reducing Fossil Fuels
The KR Foundation makes grants for environmental communications and advocacy, with a special focus on reducing investment and consumption of fossil fuels. The Foundation aims to persuade investors to divest from fossil fuel industries that deepen the climate crisis, and to invest instead in climate solutions. In parallel with divest-invest, the KR Foundation supports measures that eliminate subsidies for fossil fuels. Grants are to charitable nonprofit organizations. The amount of funding per project typically ranges from DKK 0.5 million to DKK 5 million for projects of up to approximately three years. The next deadline for letters of inquiry is 19 January 2017. International Association for Plant Taxonomy — Research in Plant Systematics
The IAPT announces the 2017 round of its competitive grants program in plant systematics, with emphasis on funding students and young investigators in developing countries, but open to applicants worldwide. The award should preferably be used for supporting travel to institutions, laboratory investigations, or fieldwork (if this includes interaction with in-country specialists). HDH Wills Charitable Trust — Conservation of Wildlife and the Environment
The HDH Wills Trust offers grants to charities in England and Wales dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and the environment. Grants from £2 thousand to £25 thousand (in some cases, up to £50 thousand) are available to charities registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales, or which are exempt or excepted charities. Past grants include several to UK organizations with conservation programs or projects in the developing world. The closing date for applications is 31 October 2017. Link
