The New York Academy of Sciences’ virtual mentoring program ‘1000 Girls, 1000 Futures’ and ‘The Junior Academy’ accept applications from female students ages 13-17 from around the world. The program connects STEM-focused high school girls to female science mentors and offers an online community with STEM resources. The program also accepts applications of female scientists interested in mentoring young girls. Wild Animal Initiative — Small Grants Program
Wild Animal Initiative provides grants for research projects that help us understand and improve the lives of wild animals. Small grants support innovative methods for measuring and monitoring wild animal welfare, population regulation, wildlife rehabilitation and conservation interventions. Grant size varies from US$2 thousand to US$30 thousand. The small grants program is open to anyone, although Wild Animal Initiative is especially interested in supporting postdocs and PhD students pursuing a long-term research career in the field of wild animal welfare, and researchers who have not previously included welfare considerations in their work. Thomson Reuters Foundation — Reporting on Climate Change
The Thomson Reuters Foundation invites journalists to participate in a training program on locally-led adaptation to climate change. This training opportunity offers a chance to understand the impact of climate change at a local level, and learn how to better report on the topic and enhance Civil Society Organizations communications to effectively communicate their message to the media. King Boudouin Foundation — Research on Water Availability
The Ernest du Bois Prize offers €20 thousand for doctoral studies on the theme of water availability. The awards are made to young students and engineers in Belgium who are carrying out research on the theme of water and its availability — including issues of protecting reserves, managing pollution, developing processing techniques, and others. Natural Resources Defense Council — Climate Storytelling Fellowship
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and partners invite applications to the NRDC Climate Storytelling Fellowship. The Fellowship will grant US$20 thousand to three writers to support revision of a feature screenplay or pilot that engages with climate change in a meaningful way. In addition, each fellowship recipient will receive professional feedback and guidance on their scripts. The first 400 writers that opt in with a qualified screenplay or pilot will receive one free month of hosting and one free evaluation. Fee Waivers must be requested no later than 23 October 2022. Mirova — Nature-based Solutions
The Nature+ Accelerator Fund aims to support nature-based innovative solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change whilst delivering positive impacts both on biodiversity and the wellbeing of local communities. The Fund will invest in projects across the following four categories: Terrestrial Conservation and Restoration; Marine Conservation and Coastal Resilience; Sustainable Agriculture; and Nature-Based Innovation (e.g., drone technology, conservation-focused smart apps, etc.). Projects with an early-stage concept may request between US$100-200 thousand, projects that have a proof-of-concept can receive between US$1-2 million, and successful projects looking for follow-on funding to scale-up will receive up to US$5 million. Applicants must be seeking commercial proposals – the funding delivered will be investment capital subject to repayment and returns. The application window closes 31 August 2022. Pennsylvania State University (USA) announces an 8-week online course about sustainable dairy production. The course will offer an international perspective on aspects of dairy management such as genetics, nutrition, reproduction, etc. Target audiences include the general public interested; professionals; livestock producers; and educators and students. The SDG Academy (edX) offers graduate-level courses on sustainable development for participants around the world. Thematic areas range from sustainable cities to sustainable food systems to climate action. SDG Academy courses can be audited for free or participants can choose to receive a Verified Certificate for a small fee. World Parrot Trust and Natural Encounters Conservation Fund — Parrot Conservation Grants Program 2022
The Parrot Conservation Grants Program invites applications. The purpose of this funding is to implement conservation projects for parrots currently threatened with global extinction. Priority will be given to projects directed towards conservation of threatened parrot species in the wild. Research projects with direct conservation application will also be considered.
