ICAR announces thirty Netaji Subhas-ICAR international fellowships for doctoral degrees in agriculture and allied sciences at agricultural universities and institutions in India and abroad. The priority areas are crop sciences, horticulture, animal sciences, natural resource management, agricultural engineering, and fisheries. Indian fellows going abroad can receive up to US$2 thousand per month. International fellows studying in India can receive up to INR40 thousand per month. The application deadline is 30 June 2016. Global Climate Change Alliance — Global Learning Event in Support of COP21
The European Commission announces its global event, “Innovative and Effective Approaches to Climate Change Adaptation and Other Post-COP21 Agreement Priorities,” scheduled for three days in September 2016. The event in Brussels will explore how experience on the ground influences policy development and vice-versa through discussion of four specific topics. The conference organizers invite proposals on these topics from EU Delegation representatives; implementing partners; governmental bodies; and non-state actors from academia, NGOs, and the private sector. Travel support will be provided to selected presenters, subject to individual arrangements. The deadline for one-page concept notes is 15 June 2016. Link
UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) — Global Challenges Research in Food and Agriculture
The Global Challenges Research Fund is a new 5-year program of UK research to address problems faced by developing countries, with emphasis on health and agriculture. A consortium of BBSRC and other UK research organizations will support multidisciplinary awards for research on Global Agriculture and Food Systems in low and middle-income countries. The awards will focus on early-stage work, with grants up to £600 thousand for projects of 18-36 months. Applications are welcomed from UK research organisations eligible to receive funding from BBSRC. Partners from the developing countries can be included in proposals. MASHAV — Policies and Economics for Green Development
Israel’s Agency for International Development (MASHAV) supports professional short courses in Israel in subject areas that include agriculture, energy, health, education, and social development. In collaboration with the Weitz Center for Sustainable Development, MASHAV announces a course on policies and economic measures for local and regional green growth, scheduled for October-November 2016. A limited number of scholarships are available to cover course fees, accommodation, medical insurance, and other expenses in Israel. Applications are submitted through Israel’s diplomatic missions. Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) — Testing to Evaluate Development Programs and Policies
PEP is a global partnership of development researchers, practitioners, institutes, and international organizations to promote research on policies to combat poverty. PEP will make grants for randomized control trials to test new programs or policy interventions in several thematic areas, including one on productivity in rural sectors. Each of four teams will benefit from a PEP support grant which includes mentoring, financial support up to US$100 thousand, and various other benefits. All team members must be developing country nationals and reside in a developing country during the full course of the project. The deadline for submitting expressions of interest is 06 June 2016. University of Cape Town — CSAG Winter School 2016
The Climate Systems Analysis Group (CSAG) at the University of Cape Town organizes a “winter school” intensive course, with the next one scheduled for five days in June-July 2016. The course is presented by facilitators from CSAG and other institutions to take participants through the full spectrum of topics related to climate and climate change, with an emphasis on issues in developing countries. CSAG offers partial sponsorships to some participants. The first application deadline is 09 May 2016; the final deadline is 30 May 2016. Link
Toyota Motor Corporation — Toyota Environmental Activities Grant Program 2016
Toyota makes grants to support environmental activities implemented by nonprofit organizations. The themes are “biodiversity conservation” and “counter measures to global warming.” Grants are made in Japan and internationally. The international program is open to applicants in Japan, and to international partners in collaboration with Japanese groups. The application deadline is 17 June 2016. Link
