The Hilden Charitable Fund makes grants in the UK and developing countries in defined thematic areas. Projects in developing countries focus on community development, education, and health. (Note: Projects related to food security, community water supply, local energy, etc., may be relevant.) Hilden particularly welcomes projects addressing the needs and potential of girls and women. Hilden will consider funding for charitable organizations based in any developing country that have been active for at least five years and meet its criteria on financial income. Hilden only accepts applications from UK charities for overseas projects. Projects may be for more than one year. Average grants are £5 thousand. J.M. Kaplan Fund — J.M.K. Innovation Prize
The J.M. Kaplan Fund supports innovation in the fields of environment, heritage conservation, and social justice. The J.M.K. Innovation Prize is particularly designed for early-stage ideas in pilot and prototype phases. The prize provides up to three years of support at US$50 thousand per year, as well as US$25 thousand for technical assistance or project expenses. The Fund makes grants to non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organizations in the USA and to organizations in other countries that have equivalent charitable status. Global Federation of Higher Education Associations for Agricultural and Life Sciences — World Agricultural Prize 2021
The Global Confederation of Higher Education Associations for the Agricultural and Life Sciences (GCHERA) supports innovation and leadership in education, research, and outreach in the agricultural and life sciences. This year, two World Agriculture Prizes will be awarded, each to a faculty member from a higher education institution for lifetime achievements in agriculture and life sciences. Global Giving — Crowdfunding Training Opportunity
GlobalGiving is an online platform to raise funds for grassroots projects worldwide across many sectors and themes – including in agriculture, energy, environment, and natural resources. GlobalGiving announces a new Accelerator program that will offer virtual training in online fundraising and participation in a two-week crowdfunding campaign. The program is open to nonprofit organizations anywhere in the world. Organizations that successfully complete the GlobalGiving Accelerator by raising at least US$5 thousand total from a minimum 40 different donors will earn permanent membership with GlobalGiving, in addition to $30 thousand in matching funding and bonus prizes. IHE Delft Institute for Water Education — Short Courses
IHE Delft offers a variety of short and specialized courses which are aimed at mid-career professionals and senior experts. Courses focus on water and environmental law, water conflict analysis, water resources planning, and many other water related fields. Fieldwork, excursions and field visits often are a part of a short course. A small number of scholarships (Orange Knowledge Scholarships, WWF Professional Development Grants, and MENA Scholarship Program), each with a different deadline, are available to deserving candidates. Earth Journalism Network — Ocean Story Grants 2021
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers reporting grants to support the production of investigative stories that will call attention to critical ocean issues. ENJ welcomes story ideas that will investigate threats to the conservation or sustainable use of the oceans, including marine pollution, ocean acidification and overfishing. ENJ expects to award 4-6 grants ranging from US$1,000 to US$2,000. Applications are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and other expert media practitioners with experience in investigative reporting and covering environmental issues. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations — International Innovation Award for Sustainable Food and Agriculture
FAO and the Federal Government of Switzerland invite applications for the International Innovation Award for Sustainable Agriculture on the theme ‘Innovation to transform food systems’. Individuals, private companies and institutions worldwide may submit agricultural innovations (digital innovation, products, or practices) that contribute to the environmental, economic and social dimensions of sustainable development. The innovation award is divided in two categories: Category A (US$ 30 thousand) for excellence in digitization and innovation for sustainable food systems; Category B (US$ 30 thousand) recognizes an innovation that specifically empowers youth (under 35) in sustainable food systems. UNESCO — International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences
The UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences rewards projects and activities of individuals, institutions, and NGOs for scientific research in the life sciences leading to improving the quality of human life. Projects in life sciences contribute to poverty eradication, improved health, food and water security. Nominations are submitted by governments of UNESCO’s member states, and by NGOs maintaining official relations with UNESCO that are active in the fields covered by the Prize. Wellcome Trust — International Training Fellowships
The Wellcome Trust offers nationals of low- and middle-income countries the opportunity to receive training at postgraduate or postdoctoral level. The Trust considers research proposals with focus on a health priority in a low- or middle-income country, which includes exploring the harmful effects of climate change on health. The funding is between £150 thousand and £300 thousand for salary, fees and research expenses.
