Association of Avian Veterinarians — Support Of Avian Research (SOAR)
The Association of Avian Veterinarians seeks research proposals addressing significant areas of need for research in avian species (atherosclerosis and cardiac disease; avian bornavirus, feather-damaging behavior). Preference will be given to grant submissions relating to avian species traditionally kept as companions, however proposals relating to zoological species will also be considered. United Nations University — Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships 2020
The United Nations University offers postdoctoral fellowships to young scholars and policymakers, especially from the developing world. The fellowship program is with the UNU’s Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). The research themes include water and urban development; governance for sustainable development; and others. Fellowships are awarded for a period of 24 months. Agropolis Foundation — Agriculture-based Solutions
The Agropolis Foundation seeks to promote the agro-ecological transition by promoting practices and solutions which conserve natural renewable resources. Therefore, the Foundation invites research and project proposals along three transversal axes: Agriculture and climate change: adaptation and mitigation (Axis 1); Conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity (Axis 2); Responsible production and consumption (Axis 3). The call will finance two types of projects. Type 1 projects may request between €150 thousand and €250 thousand, Type 2 projects may request between €20 thousand and €25 thousand. U.S. National Science Foundation — Antarctic Artists and Writers Program
The Antarctic Artists and Writers Program supports writing and artistic projects specifically designed to increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of the Antarctic and human endeavors in Antarctica. Artists and writers receive operational support, and round-trip economy air tickets between the United States and the Southern Hemisphere whose work requires them to be in the Antarctic to complete their proposed project. Priority will be given to projects that focus on interpreting and representing scientific activities. There is no restriction concerning the nationality of applicants but the resulting projects must target audiences in the U.S. and be distributed/exhibited in the U.S. (Note: Potential proposers are encouraged to contact the Program Officer prior to submitting a proposal.) Friedrich Naumann Foundation — Scholarships for International Students
The scholarship scheme is open to qualified international candidates studying full-time at German universities. International applicants from all subject areas can apply for a scholarship for their Masters degree as well as PhD. The minimum funding covers two semesters. The Society of Chemical Industry awards travel bursaries to young PhD students. There are various schemes available, some related to agriculture and life sciences. Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute — Short-term Fellowships for Tropical Research
The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) invites applications to the Short-Term Fellowship Program on tropical research. The fellowship is directed to graduate students, but awards are sometimes given to undergraduate and postdoctoral candidates. The program has a three month duration period and provides a stipend to cover living expenses while at STRI ($1000/month), a modest research allowance; and round-trip airfare. UNESCO — World Heritage Volunteers 2020
The UNESCO World Heritage Centre invites applications for the World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) Campaign 2020. The aim of the call is to encourage young people to undertake concrete actions and to play an active role in the protection, preservation and promotion of World Heritage sites. Projects should be organised in immediate connection to a property inscribed on the World Heritage List or a site inscribed on a Tentative List. Both public or private organisations or institutions from any country are eligible to apply. UNESCO does not provide financial support to organizations, but carries out action camps for the volunteering participants. The closing date for applications is 19 January 2020. Find out more
