TravelGrants — Travel4Good

TravelGrants makes small travel grants to activists, changemakers, charities, students, social media influencers, and artists. Applicants may submit proposals, essays, films or audio, clips, poems, photos, or presentations to show how their travel will change them and the world around them. The winner will receive a US$500 travel grant. Participation is open to any individual or organization in any country. The deadline for submission is 7 August 2019. More

UK Natural Environment Research Council — The Role of the Southern Ocean in Climate Change

The aim of this Research Programme is to provide the scientific basis to inform international climate policy of the role of the Southern Ocean (SO) carbon system in climate change. Under this call, two proposals will funded at a maximum cost of £325 thousand each. United Nations — Ocean Law Fellowship Programme

The United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS) and the Nippon Foundation seek applications for a 9-month Fellowship Programme. The Programme seeks to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to assist developing States towards the formulation of comprehensive ocean law and policy. Shell LiveWIRE — Innovation Competition in Circular Economy

Shell LiveWIRE, the enterprise development programme of Shell, seeks entrepreneurs with innovations in the theme of Circular Economy. The categories for this years competition are Agriculture & Food, Energy & Mobility, and Sustainable Future. The winners will receive US$20 thousand and runners-up will receive US$10 thousand. Sense about Science — John Maddox Prize for Science Communication

The John Maddox Prize recognizes the work of individuals who promote science and evidence, advancing the public discussion around difficult topics. The winner receives £3 thousand. An additional prize is awarded to one early-career scientist. Candidates must be nominated (no self-nomination) and can be from any country and in any field of science. U.S. Agency for International Development — WomenConnect Challenge

The WomenConnect Challenge is a global call for solutions to improve women’s participation in everyday life. USAID seeks comprehensive solutions that empower women and girls to access and use digital technology to drive positive health, education, and livelihood outcomes for themselves and their families. USAID will support the development of selected pilot approaches through technical assistance and monetary support. Approx. three grants ranging from US$900 thousand to US$1 million will be made for projects of up to 24 months in duration. The WomenConnect Challenge is open to registered US or non-US organizations in countries with USAID presence. The deadline for submission of concept notes is 26 July 2019. Link

Nikon — International Small World Competition 2020

The Nikon Small World Competition is open to anyone with an interest in photography through the microscope. Each year, the top 20 prize-winners are exhibited at numerous museums and science centers throughout the United States and Canada. The Top 3 winners will receive up to US$3 thousand. Heliconia Society International — Small Grants for Student Research

The Heliconia Society International makes small grants supporting research on any aspects of the botany and horticulture of the Zingiberales conducted by graduate and post-doctoral students enrolled at recognized universities and research institutions. Annual grants are US$1,000. Awardees will also receive one year’s free membership to the HSI, and a summary of their research proposal will be published in the HSI Bulletin. German Academic Exchange Service — Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience 2019

DAAD collaborates with the EC’s Marie Curie Program to offer the Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience (PRIME) for outstanding postdoctoral researchers across all disciplines and nationalities. Funding is provided for 18 months, of which 12 months are spent abroad and 6 months at a German university. The funding consists of salaries instead of scholarships. University of Cape Town — CSAG Winter School 2019

The Climate Systems Analysis Group (CSAG) at the University of Cape Town organizes a “winter school” intensive course, with the next one scheduled for five days in July 2019. The course is presented by facilitators from CSAG and other institutions to take participants through the full spectrum of topics related to climate and climate change, with an emphasis on issues in developing countries. CSAG offers partial sponsorships to some participants. The final application deadline is 07 June 2019. Link
