International Osprey Foundation — Research on Ospreys

The IOF makes small grants for research on ospreys and other raptor species worldwide. Applicants submit a research plan, proposed budget, and information about other sources of funding. Securing Water for Food — Photo Contest

The Securing Water for Food (SWFF) Global Water-Agriculture Photo Contest will call attention to the significant issue of water scarcity, while recognizing and celebrating steps being taken around the world to improve water and food security. The four themes for photos are: agriculture; water; technology related to water-agriculture; and men and women working in agriculture. Cash prizes are up to US$500. AuthorAID — Online Course in Research Communication

AuthorAID announces a free online course in research communication for early-career researchers in developing countries. The course duration is seven weeks, beginning 03 October. The course aims to cover literature review; research and publication ethics; targeting the right journals; writing and publishing a research paper; and communicating research outside academia. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation — Doctoral Scholarships 2018

Each year, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation awards up to fifteen scholarships to Canadian and international doctoral candidates pursuing research related to one of its four founding themes, one of which is “People and their Natural Environment.” This theme includes studies of a social, economic or political nature that lead to the identification, evaluation, or dissemination of sustainable environmental practices. It also includes an interest in environmental security at the global level, and in the link between healthy ecosystems, communities, and individuals. Candidates must be nominated by the Canadian or international institution where they wish to study or are currently studying. Universities can nominate a candidate from their institution who is pursuing doctoral studies at another university. The deadline for submissions by the universities is 08 December 2017. Scholarship opportunity

Rise Fund — Under 30 Impact Challenge

The Rise Fund is partnering with Forbes and Echoing Green to sponsor the “Under 30 Impact Challenge.” The challenge is designed to celebrate entrepreneurs around the world, under the age of 30, who are building successful for-profit enterprises that drive positive social and environmental impact. The eligible sectors include energy, food and agriculture, and five others. Applicants must be under age 30, and their businesses must be in a growth phase. There are no restrictions by nationality or residence. The winner will qualify for an investment of US$250 thousand by The Rise Fund, plus an in-kind media grant by Forbes. The submission deadline is 06 September 2017. 

UNIDO Institute — Training Course on Sustainable Energy

UNIDO and the Energy Academy Europe (EAE) are organizing a training course for professionals to address key issues relating to sustainable energy. Participation is open to mid-level professionals from emerging and developing countries with expertise in industrial development, energy and environment, and other relevant fields. The 8-day course will provide participants the opportunity to familiarize themselves with trends in sustainable energy solutions. Training sessions and all materials will be in English (no translation will be provided). The number of participants is limited to 25 persons. Applications will be closed on 15 September 2017. Pacsafe Turtle Fund — Grants for Sea Turtle Conservation 2018

The Pacsafe Turtle Fund supports the worldwide conservation of endangered sea turtles such as the leatherback, loggerhead, green, and hawksbill turtles. Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund — Funding for Projects Led by Women 2018

VGIF provides grants up to US$7,500 for projects that are led by women, and that help empower women and girls in grassroots communities around the globe. Most grants are for one year. Past projects include examples in farming, kitchen gardens, water supply, and other aspects of sustaining local livelihoods.  VGIF will accept letters of intent through 02 October 2017. UN-Habitat — Conference on Cities and Climate Change Science

UN-Habitat and its partners are sponsoring a conference in Canada, scheduled for March 2018, on the subject of cities and the science of climate change. The conference will assess the current state of academic and practice-based knowledge about climate change, identifying gaps and sharing best practices. The conference organizers welcome proposals for events and abstracts for oral sessions. The conference has limited funding available to support the travel of selected applicants from developing countries. Additional funds may be mobilized for the participation of early-career scientists and professionals. The submission deadline is 06 October 2017. United Nations Environment Program — Fighting Plastic in the Oceans

UN Environment and Think Beyond Plastic are sponsoring a worldwide innovation challenge for university students to fight the increasing problem of plastic in oceans. The winners in each of four categories of the competition will attend the Sixth International Marine Debris Conference in California (March 2018), and will receive free mentorship to help them develop their ideas.
