With funding from the governments of UK and Canada, PEP has launched a new call for proposals addressing “Policy Analysis on Growth and Employment” (PAGE II, Round 2) in developing countries. The issues to be examined span a broad spectrum of development policy, including themes related to labor productivity in agriculture, entrepreneurship, and others. PAGE targets teams of researchers in developing countries — with preference for applicants from low-income, fragile, and/or conflict states. Applying teams will generally need university-level training in economics or equivalent experience. PAGE positively encourages teams with a female researcher as project leader. Research Councils UK — Interdisciplinary Research Hubs to Address Intractable Challenges
Research Councils UK invites proposals from eligible UK research organisations to establish research hubs addressing currently intractable challenges faced by developing countries. Examples might include but are not restricted to achieving economic growth in an environmentally sustainable way while also ensuring social cohesion and adequate access to safe food, water, and services; development of resilient infrastructure and energy production in the context of climate change; achieving food security in ways that make agriculture, food production, and consumption more environmentally and economically sustainable; and urban development that fosters diversity whilst tackling air pollution and other environmental hazards. Government of Czech Republic — University Scholarships for Applicants from Developing Countries
The Czech Republic provides scholarships to support nationals from developing countries at public institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic. The fields of study include ecology, wildlife management, natural resources, forestry, and tropical agriculture (among others). Applications need to be submitted before 30 September of each year. Israeli Agency for International Development Cooperation — Professional Courses in Israel 2017
MASHAV funds professional courses organized and hosted by Israeli institutions in subject areas that include agriculture, energy, natural resources, health, education, and social development. The remainder of the 2017 calendar in English-language courses includes one on water management and modern irrigation (October-November 2017), with an application deadline on 18 August 2017; meteorological warnings (November 2017), with an application deadline on 25 August 2017; and agriculture and environment in a changing climate (November-December 2017), with an application deadline on 01 October 2017. MASHOV offers additional courses in Spanish, French, and Russian. Applications are submitted through Israel’s diplomatic missions. For most courses, MASHAV covers course fees, accommodation, medical insurance, and other expenses in Israel (but not international airfare). Link
British Ornithologists’ Union — Grants and Bursaries 2018
The BOU invites amateurs and professionals to apply for its Small Ornithological Research Grants. Research grants are up to £2 thousand to support small projects outright, or to partly fund medium-sized programs. The BOU also offers Career Development Bursaries to support short-term research positions of young and early-career ornithologists in any country. The Big Give — Online Funding Platform
The Big Give is an online crowd funding platform of charitable projects in thematic areas that include environment and animals, emergencies and development, and several others. Donors view the project profiles and make funding contributions through an online process. Most listed charities are based in the UK, although the Big Give allows charities in other countries to register if they are approved by the UK’s tax authority. Link
World Academy of Sciences — Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Brazil
In partnership with the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Brazil’s National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) invites young scientists from developing countries other than Brazil to pursue postdoctoral research in natural sciences at selected Brazilian research institutions for periods of 6-12 months. Subject areas include agricultural sciences, biological sciences, and many others. CNPq will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs such as accommodation, food, and health insurance. The application deadline is 11 August 2017. Link

Hogan Lovells — Community Solar Innovation Awards 2017
The 2017 Community Solar Innovation Awards will honor innovative enterprises that utilise solar energy to improve the lives of poor communities in the developing world. Hogan Lovells will make ten awards to businesses and non-profit organizations in developing countries which are locally-led and which use solar energy systems or solar innovations to significantly help the lives of women and girls. The winners will receive support services consisting of capacity building, pro bono legal support, publicity, and support in replicating the enterprises in other regions. One overall winner will receive US$10 thousand. The application deadline is 16 August 2017. Link
Orskov Foundation — Grants in Sustainable Land Use for University Students
Orskov makes grants to support student projects in agriculture and sustainable land use in developing countries. Preference will be given to training that emphasizes animal, plant, and soil interactions. Projects should have the potential to alleviate poverty and to provide sustainable environmental benefits, including adaptation/mitigation to the impacts of climate change. Applications are invited from individuals in lower-income and lower middle-income countries. The program includes student grants up to £2,500 to support studies at a university or similar organization other than the university/college in which the applicant is registered. The application period is 01 October through 31 December of each year. Link
