Zoological Society of London — EDGE Fellowships 2024

The EDGE of Existence Program provides fellowships for two-year projects in research and conservation of EDGE (Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered) mammals, amphibians, corals, and birds. The program is open to early-career conservation biologists who are nationals or residents of the country in which the EDGE species occur. The focus in 2024 is EDGE species in Asia and the Pacific. EDGE Fellows receive a grant of up to £10 thousand; an opportunity to attend two regional training courses and to undertake online modules in relevant topics; and one-to-one support from a scientific advisor. Blue Action Fund — Eastern Tropical Pacific Region

The Blue Action Fund announces a new open call for grant proposals focusing on the Eastern Tropical Pacific Region. The Fund provides individual grants to selected conservation projects with focus on marine protected areas (MPAs) to support conservation of biodiversity, and projects that seek to enhance livelihood conditions and food security. The Fund will award grants of €2-4 million. Eligible applicants are non-profit organizations with proven experience in coastal and marine conservation and sustainable livelihood development in the area. Applicants must provide match funding of at least 25% of the total project costs. The deadline for submission is 08 September 2023. Link to the call

Australian Government — ASEAN Scholarships

The Australian Government offers scholarships to pursue a master’s degree to leaders from ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste. ASEAN scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian education institution, including any preparatory training. Pulitzer Center — Impact Seed Fund

Impact Seed Funding (ISF) is a micro-scale grant provided by the Pulitzer Center to support education activities to enrich the perspectives and knowledge of the university community— specifically students and educators—about the problems, solutions, and innovations related to the impact of human activities in tropical forests, ocean, and the climate crisis. ISF grants range from US$2,000 to US$4,000. Applicants should be professors or researchers in a higher education institution, or groups of students guided by a responsible professor, and not have the project applied in Africa, Brazil, or Southeast Asia. Toyota Foundation — International Grant Program for East and Southeast Asia

The Toyota Foundation supports projects focusing on challenges and issues shared among Japan and other Asian countries. The grant program invites applications in the fields of mutual learning and knowledge-sharing among East and Southeast Asia. The Foundation has previously funded projects in the fields of sustainable energy, agriculture, and water resources. The maximum grant amount per project ranges from US$44 thousand to US$89 thousand. Irish Government — Funding for Micro-Projects in the Pacific

The Embassy of Ireland, Canberra (ICMPS) offers grants of up to US$20 thousand to organizations in the Pacific that work on issues related to women’s rights, climate change, biodiversity, conflict resolution, and human rights. Organizations must be based in the Pacific and be an indigenous, locally managed, non-profit organization. Applications are due by 11 April 2023. A second round specifically for organizations based in Fiji, Nauru, Solomon Islands, or Papua New Guinea will be open from 18 April to 30 June 2024. Know more

Kurita Water and Environment Foundation – Water Research Grants 2024

The Kurita Water and Environment Foundation (KWEF) supports scientists of Asian nationality who are conducting water research. Research topics include technologies for water/wastewater treatment, water quality analysis, sustainability of water environment sanitation, water ecosystem, and agricultural water use – among other themes. Grants are up to ¥ 300 thousand per research project. Applicants should be under age 40. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in the ASEAN region

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in the ASEAN region. CFLI provides funding to projects that implement environment and climate action projects focusing on adaptation and mitigation, water management, and other thematic priorities. The average contribution is C$20 thousand to C$40 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to not-for-profit local, national, or community-based organizations. East-West Center — Research Innovation & Collaboration and Exchange Fellowships

The East-West Center (EWC) provides fellowships for scholars, researchers, or journalists from the Indo-Pacific Region, including the United States, to undertake research or other projects on topics related to environmental issues and geopolitics in the Indo-Pacific region. Fellows receive a stipend, support, and travel funding. The application deadline is 16 May 2024. RICE Fellowships

Association of Commonwealth Universities — Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships

The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) supports the Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships for citizens of developing Commonwealth countries. The scholarships fund cultural and academic exchanges and are awarded across many subjects, including climate resilience and life sciences. Eligibility extends to citizens of (or with refugee status in) a Commonwealth country other than the country hosting the award. Scholarships cover tuition fees, living expenses (stipend) for the duration of the award, return economy flight, one-off arrival allowance, and research support grant (on request).
