The Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work recognize individuals ages 15 to 29 who lead innovative development projects in themes that include agriculture, small enterprise, skills training, climate change, environmental protection, sustainable livelihoods, and poverty reduction. The program selects regional winners from each of Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Winners are awarded grants of up to a total of £5 thousand in total to advance their projects. East-West Center — Graduate Degree Fellowship
The Graduate Degree Fellowship provides funding for graduate students from Asia, the Pacific, and the United States to participate in capacity building and leadership development programs at the East-West Center while pursuing graduate study at the University of Hawai‘i. The fellowship covers the cost of tuition and fees, books, and housing. Eligibility extends to citizens or permanent residents of the United States, Asia, and countries in the Pacific region (including Russia). U.S. Department of State — E-Waste Program
The FRE-E-WASTE program is a two-day workshop, followed by a co-production of a manual on e-waste for Southeast Asian environmental enthusiasts aged between 18 to 35. The program aims to raise awareness on the problem of e-waste and educate that greenhouse gasses could be reduced or avoided if e-waste were properly treated and recycled. Takagi Fund — Citizen Science
The Takagi Fund for Citizen Science invites grant applications from groups and individuals in Asia pursuing “Citizen Science”. Research Grants may cover research and travel expenses, printing, as well as workshops or symposia to communicate research findings to the public. Training Grants are to support an individual receiving training at educational institutions, NGOs, research institutes and can be used to cover travel, accommodation, tuition or related costs. Fondation Segré — Research Support Grants
Fondation Segré supports on-the-ground conservation actions with the goal of improving the status of threatened animal species (terrestrial, freshwater and marine) and their habitats across Asia, the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and the Middle East. Research Support Grants have a maximum grant size of €5 thousand to support young and early scientists in their research to improve knowledge on threatened species and their role in natural ecosystems. U.S. Mission to Fiji — Virtual Storytelling Program
The U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to conduct a series of virtual storytelling and filmmaking classes to multiple countries within the Pacific Island Region. “My Climate Story” will offer master classes to enable Pacific Islander youth to use their smartphone and tell how climate change affects them. Prospective applicants must submit a draft schedule of virtual sessions involving storytelling and filmmaking curriculum, to be conducted over an eight-week period. Awards may range from a minimum of US$25 thousand to a maximum of US$30 thousand. U.S. Department of State — TechCamp for Climate Action
The United States Department of State announces the 2022 Young Pacific Leaders TechCamp for Climate Action. The TechCamp will bring young leaders from across the Pacific together with regional and U.S. leaders in the field of climate science and science communication to identify innovative approaches to climate resiliency and mitigation. U.S. Mission to New Zealand — Small Grants Program
The U.S. Mission New Zealand announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting proposals to organize a comprehensive small grants program with training workshops for emerging leaders in the Pacific region. The program should bring together emerging leaders, ages 25-35, and provide them with practical leadership skills related to environment/resource management and economic/social development. The location of the in-person training workshops should be in New Zealand. The estimated total program funding is US$250 thousand. Genesis Charitable Trust — Grants for Local Sustainable Development
The Genesis Charitable Trust makes grants to help individuals and communities in developing countries to improve their standards of living. The Trust favors projects that aim for long-term income generation and self-sufficiency, especially projects making a positive impact on communities currently beyond the reach of traditional government or market-based solutions. Past projects include examples in small-scale agriculture, renewable energy, and fisheries — among other focus areas. The Trust does not set a minimum or maximum grant value, although grants generally do not exceed US$300 thousand per project. Grants are restricted to nonprofit organizations in eligible developing countries, or applicants that are associated with nonprofit organizations from the UK, US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand or Singapore. Government of India — ASEAN-India Research Training Fellowship
The ASEAN-India Research Training Fellowship (AI-RTF) aims to promote cooperation in science, technology and innovation through joint research activities in environmental management, climate change adaptation, agricultural technologies, alternative energy, biodiversity, biotechnology, and others. The Fellowship provides ASEAN young researchers with the opportunity to work at an Indian research/academic institution. The duration of the Fellowship will be for a period of 2-6 months. Fellows receive full financial assistance, including international travel, accommodation, meals, and a one-time grant of up to INR 40 thousand for research expenses.
