The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is a program of the U.S. government to support bright young leaders ages 18-35 in the ASEAN countries. YSEALI seeks organizations to implement a five day workshop in Malaysia to boost the strategic communication and advocacy skills of NGOs in Southeast Asia. The workshop should build capacity in working with the media and focus on human and wildlife trafficking and environmental sustainability. Funding of US$250 thousand is available. Eligible participants must be citizens from Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, or Timor-Leste. The application deadline is 30 June 2019. Universitas Gadjah Mada — Gadjah Mada International Fellowship
The Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) offers a scholarship to international students from ASEAN member countries (excluding Indonesia), South Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan that demonstrate the need of financial assistance. Study courses include agriculture, forestry, biology, and veterinary medicine. The GMIF program covers tuition fees, living allowance, international airfare, and thesis research of Rp10 million for the Master Program and Rp15 million for the Doctoral Program. Caterpillar Foundation — Grants for Environment and Basic Needs
Internationally, the Caterpillar Foundation has supported projects in tropical forest conservation and afforestation; water and sanitation; food and agriculture; alternative (low-carbon) transportation systems; urban waste recycling; and other themes related to environment and natural resources. The Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations such as development NGOs, universities and institutes, foundations, museums, conservation groups, and others. Most grants are in communities in Asia Pacific, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe where Caterpillar has an active presence. National Geographic Society — Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution
The National Geographic Society seeks proposals for its program “Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution” from all around the world. The aim is to explore solutions to reduce marine plastic pollution (including behavior change). Projects may be focused around conservation, education, research, storytelling, or technology. Geographic priorities include known hot spots that contribute most to the ocean plastic pollution problem. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents or citizens of the country of fieldwork as well as to projects with strong local capacity development components. Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology — Training Courses, Seminars, and Workshops 2019
The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMO BIOTROP) aims to increase the knowledge and skills of ASEAN professionals and students on a wide range of topics in tropical biology. Unless otherwise indicated, training courses are conducted at the SEAMEO BIOTROP headquarter in Bogor, Indonesia. Priority is for nationals of SEAMEO member countries, especially in the sponsored courses. The remaining BIOTROP courses and seminars for 2019 are scheduled from July through October. United States Government — ASEAN Science Prize for Women
The 2019 ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women seeks to identify and recognize ASEAN-based, early to mid-career women who are using applied sciences in the theme of the “Circular Economy”. The top two finalists will be invited to compete in a pitch competition during an ASEAN Ministerial event in Singapore in October 2019. The overall winner will receive $20 thousand. U.S. Department of State — Building Cooperation to Combat Wildlife Trafficking Between Africa and Asia
The U.S. Department of State seeks proposals to improve cooperation between governments in Africa and Asia to combat wildlife trafficking and implement joint action to dismantle the transnational networks that perpetrate these crimes. The project budget must fall between US$500 thousand and US$950 thousand. Eligible organizations include U.S. and overseas based non-profit organizations (NGOs) or educational institutions. Access Agriculture — Training for Young Agricultural Entrepreneurs
Access Agriculture invites applicants for the Young Entrepreneur Challenge Fund. Participants have the chance to propose innovative business ideas or expand their existing business, around the dissemination of agricultural videos. Selected young entrepreneurs will receive a Digisoft smart projector with an in-built computer that contains a library with over 200 training videos. Climate Tracker — 10-Month Fellowship on Climate Solutions
Climate Tracker, in partnership with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, seeks five young climate journalists to participate in an online mentorship on climate solutions and journalism. The fellows will receive training on how to write articles on climate change and a monthly stipend of US$150. Applicants that are between 18 and 30 years old and are living in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia, or Asia-Pacific are eligible. To participate, applicants have to write, publish, and submit a 500+ words article (in any language) on local solutions and responses to climate change. European Commission — Promoting Inclusive Development in Fiji
The European Commission seeks to support local Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) as actors of governance and development work in the field. The objective is to increase participation of CSOs in addressing climate change through disaster risk reduction or resilience.
