The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship seeks proposals from researchers with experience in the fields of social sciences and humanities but with interest in interfacing with earth system science. The aim is to overcome the disciplinary boundaries between earth science, and in particular climate science, and social/human sciences. European Fellowships support experienced researchers for a full time period between 12 and 24 months. Tropical Forest Alliance — Tropical Forest Commodities Challenge
The Tropical Forest Alliance (TFA) and UpLink launch the Tropical Forest Commodities Challenge, calling for solutions for systemic change in commodity supply chains that rely on deforestation free practices. Solutions should deliver benefits to the global environment, while also ensuring sustainable livelihoods. Submissions may either be existing solutions with tracked success, or new entrepreneurial ideas. The best 10-20 submissions will be invited to a 4-month cohort program by Tropical Forest Alliance as part of the World Economic Forum. Submissions are being accepted until 27 August 2021. Global Water Partnership-Caribbean — Water Resource Projects in the Caribbean
The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean invites project proposals for the implementation of short-term small-scale Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and Integrated Water Resources and Wastewater Management (IWWM) projects in the Caribbean. Projects based on hydro-geological mapping, capacity building, and feasibility assessments must have a total cost between €1,000 and €5,000. Projects for the implementation of innovative decentralized, rural community-based interventions for wastewater management must have a total cost of no more than US$25 thousand. Global Environment Facility — Climate Adaptation Innovation
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) supports climate adaptation efforts mainly in the least developed countries. The Challenge Program for Adaptation Innovation aims to test and validate scalable investment approaches, business models, partnerships, and technologies. The GEF accepts project concepts with a total value of US$10 million. Concept notes should request no more than US$2 million. Emphasis will be placed on concepts that promote innovation and risk taking for climate adaptation impact. Concept notes can be submitted by any public, private or civil society organization. United Nations Capital Development Fund — Agritech Challenge
The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) invites Expressions of Interest for the Agritech Challenge 2021 to co-create or adapt solutions for smallholders farmers. Solutions must focus on key challenges of small farmers in Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia in Africa and India, Indonesia, Malaysia in Asia. The program invites applications from start-ups with solutions that are addressing low productivity, climate risk, or inefficient supply chain challenges and are interested to pilot their solution in one of the seven participating countries. RISE Fellowship — WASH Seed Funding
The RISE fellowship supports early-stage female entrepreneurs (or female-led NGOs) working to resolve critical water, sanitation or hygiene issues in emerging economies. The fellowship provides mentorship, seed funding (US$1,000 – US$5,000) and resources to female entrepreneurs living in low to middle income countries. Applicants are invited to submit an idea for an initiative that will improve the local water, sanitation and hygiene of their own community. The fellowship is open to women worldwide. Green People’s Energy for Africa — Energy Access Challenges
The Green People’s Energy for Africa (GBE) seeks concrete solutions to address two specific challenges in the energy access sphere: Increasing Off-Grid System Sustainability and Reducing CO2 Emissions via Energy Access. The Challenge prioritizes solutions from within the nine focal countries: Ethiopia, Benin, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Namibia, Senegal, Uganda, and Zambia. However, applications from other Sub-Saharan countries are also welcome. Applicants must be either non-profit organizations or local for-profit organizations in the country of implementation. African Women’s Development Fund — Grants for Women’s Organizations
The African Women’s Development Fund supports organizations working towards the empowerment of African women and the achievement of gender equality on the continent. The six thematic areas include one on economic empowerment and livelihoods related to food security, agriculture, climate change, and other issues. The program makes grants to local, national, sub-regional, and regional women’s organizations in Africa and the following Middle East Countries: Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq and Yemen. Earth Journalism Network — Zoonotic Diseases in the Asia-Pacific Region
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers story grants to journalists to support the production of in-depth stories that will call attention to zoonotic diseases and One Health in Asia and the Pacific region. Stories can be produced in any language, but the application must be submitted in English. ENJ accepts applications from journalists residing in Southeast Asia, South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific Islands (but not Australia and New Zealand). ENJ expects to award 20 grants with an average grant amount of US$1,500, depending on proposal and needs. Larger grant amounts may be considered, if justified. Ashoka — ChangemakerXchange for Social Innovators in Europe
The ChangemakerXchange summit and accelerator program for ‘Empathy Changemakers’ for young social innovators aims to develop social-emotional competencies in children and youth to unleash their full potential to take responsibility for themselves, others and the planet. The aim of the summit is to build a cross-sectoral network of changemakers that work together to address societal issues in a collaborative manner. Eligibility extends to participants who lead, co-lead, have founded, or have co-founded an ongoing social venture that addresses a relevant social problem, including in the theme of Environment (among others). Applicants must come from Europe and be aged 18 – 35. ChangemakerXchange will cover the travel costs and conference costs for the event to be held in Cologne (Germany, October 2021).
