Wildlife Photo — Wildlife Photography Contest 2019

The wildlife photography contest series for 2019 is open. Wildlife Photo will award prizes worth US$18 thousand in total (including photography trips and equipment). There are three categories for submission: Wildlife Portraits; Habitats & Landscapes; and Animal Behaviour. A selection of winners and highly-commended images will be exhibited on an outdoor screen in New York City. The photo contest series is accepting entries until 31 January 2020. UNESCO — Plastic Initiative Award & Photo Contest

UNESCO Bangkok invites schools, universities and other institutions to apply for the Plastic Initiative Award. Educational institutions from the Asia-Pacific region with established projects related to reuse/reduce/recycle, plastic waste management and innovations to solve the plastic pollution issues are eligible. The winner will receive a trophy and publicity. Furthermore, the winner will be invited to the Donor/Fundraising event (September 2019) at the National Science Museum of Thailand to give a presentation. UNESCO — Ethics of Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability

UNESCO seeks nominations for the Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science 2019 with a special thematic focus on climate change and environmental sustainability. The prize consists of a gold medal, a certificate, and US$50 thousand. The prize may be conferred upon individuals, institutions, other entities or non-governmental organizations. Biodiversity Revisited — Essay Competition

Biodiversity Revisited seeks applications for an early career essay competition. Early-career researchers are invited to share their view on biodiversity conservation or develop a provocative idea on how biodiversity research and practice can be improved. The essays submitted will be part of the discussions at the international Biodiversity Revisited Symposium taking place in Austria (September 2019). Generation Africa — Prize for Agri-Food Business Venture

Generation Africa seeks applications for the Gogettaz Agripreneur Prize. The prize is intended for entrepreneurial ventures in the agri-food sector founded by young Africans (under 35 years old). The grand prize winners will receive US$50 thousand to grow their businesses. Entrepreneurs must hold a nationality from any of the 54 nations of the African Union. OpenIDEO — BridgeBuilder Competition 2019

OpenIDEO and GHR Foundation jointly invite proposals that address urgent global challenges in radically new ways. The BridgeBuilder Challenge seeks solutions that connect peace, prosperity, and the planet. Submissions should target a specific, pressing, and solvable need across two or more of these themes. The competition is open to non-profit and for-profit organizations as well as individuals. Proposed projects should not be longer than three years. The selected winners share US$1 million. Elsevier Foundation — Green & Sustainable Chemistry Challenge

The Elsevier Foundation Green and Sustainable Chemistry Challenge seeks to stimulate innovative chemistry research that helps the environment and low-resource communities. Proposals should outline innovative chemistry ideas that tackle some of the developing world’s greatest sustainability challenges. The winning project will receive €50 thousand, the second prize is €25 thousand. The Challenge is open to individuals and non-profit organizations. The deadline for submissions is 15 September 2019. Rapunzel Naturkost and IFOAM — One World Award

Natural health food producer Rapunzel Naturkost and IFOAM – Organics International, the international umbrella organization for organic agriculture, invite nominations for the ‘ONE WORLD AWARD 2020’ (OWA). The award recognizes innovative ideas, projects and people in three areas of sustainability, including conservation of nature and biodiversity, organic farming, contributions to stop climate change (energy conservation or use of renewable energy), and waste management. The winner will receive €45 thousand in prize money. Nominations can be submitted either by individuals or by organizations. Nominations will be accepted until 30 September 2019. Details 

Kinaya Ventures — Innovation Challenges for African Startups

Kinaya Ventures is an innovation and investment platform with the mission to connect startups, corporations, and investors. The Spring Fellowship is a 4-month accelerator program, designed for African entrepreneurs and early to growth-stage startups in the areas Agtech, Foodtech, AdTech, MarTech, RetailTech. Électricité de France S.A. — EDF Pulse Africa Awards

The EDF Pulse Africa Awards is open to start-ups, micro-enterprises and small businesses in Africa that develop solutions in the field of energy. The contest invites applications in three categories: (1) Off-grid electrical production; (2) Electrical uses and services; and (3) Access to water – innovative solution to improve access to water through electricity. In order to be eligible, applicants must have a prototype by 21 November 2019, allowing the demonstration of the proposed solution to the general public. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners will receive €15 thousand, €10 thousand, and €5 thousand respectively. Applications (in French or English) have to be submitted by 08 July 2019. Details
