The Samira Omar Innovation for Sustainability Prize recognizes woman scientists from least-developed countries with scientific achievements in clean and renewable energy; sustainable agriculture and agro-biodiversity; plastic pollution and microplastics, water purification and sanitation, climate change, waste management, biodiversity conservation, and other themes related to sustainability. The winner will receive a cash award of US$4 thousand. Candidates should be working and living in an LDC country for at least two years prior to nomination. Blue Action Fund — Eastern Tropical Pacific Region
The Blue Action Fund announces a new open call for grant proposals focusing on the Eastern Tropical Pacific Region. The Fund provides individual grants to selected conservation projects with focus on marine protected areas (MPAs) to support the conservation of biodiversity and projects that seek to enhance livelihood conditions and food security. The Fund will award grants of €2-4 million. Eligible applicants are non-profit organizations with proven experience in coastal and marine conservation and sustainable livelihood development in the area. Fondation Carmignac — Photojournalism Award 2024
The 15th edition of the Carmignac Photojournalism Award is dedicated to Southeast Asia and the violations of human and environmental rights caused by illegal fishing and overfishing. The laureates receive a €50 thousand grant to carry out a 9-month field report with the support of the Fondation Carmignac. The Award is open to all photographers, of all nationalities. Earth Institute — Post-Doctoral Fellowships 2025
The Earth Institute at Columbia University invites applications for 2-year postdoctoral fellowships that contribute to understanding critical scientific and social issues in global sustainable development. Specific areas of research include food security, energy systems, climate change, poverty reduction, disease, and environmental degradation. The multi-disciplinary program is open to U.S. and non-U.S. citizens who received their doctoral degrees within five years of beginning their appointments. Earth Journalism Network — Story Grants Asia Pacific
The Erath Journalism Network (EJN) offers story grants to women journalists and those identifying as gender and sexual minorities in the Asia-Pacific region to produce in-depth reports on the gendered impacts of the environmental and climate crises. EJN plans to issue 20-25 grants of up to US$2000 each. Global Landscapes Forum — African Youth Storytelling Contest
The Global Landscapes Forum hosts a storytelling contest for young Africans. The story should revolve around the key themes of a thriving Africa, including but not limited to food sovereignty, biodiverse landscapes, ecosystem restoration, and climate justice, among others. The three best stories will receive prizes of €500, €300 and €200 respectively. The contest is open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 35 born and/or currently living in Africa. Fondation Franklinia — Conservation of Globally Threatened Trees
The Foundation Franklinia accepts project proposals focused on in-situ conservation of threatened trees in Eastern Africa. Eligibility extends to any organization with well-established expertise and efficiency in plant conservation. Projects must aim at improving the conservation status of globally threatened tree species listed on the IUCN Red List of threatened species. Funding from the Foundation favors conservation projects with reasonable budgets in relation to proposed activities. A minimum of 20-50% of co-funding will be required. IREX Community Solutions is a professional development program for community leaders in eligible countries to participate in a four-month fellowship with a local nonprofit organization or government agency in the USA. The subject areas include environmental issues (among others). Applications are accepted from eligible countries in East Asia and the Pacific; South and Central Asia; Sub-Saharan Africa; North Africa and the Middle East; Europe; and Latin America and the Caribbean. UK Government — Darwin Initiative: Main Projects
The Darwin Initiative funds capacity building, training, research, and education in support of the major conventions on biodiversity — focusing on the developing world. The program invites applications for main projects, partnership projects, and fellowships. Applicant organizations can be based in any country. Projects must benefit biodiversity and local communities in developing countries. Darwin projects should be a minimum of £100 thousand and no more than £600 thousand.
