Earth Journalism Network (EJN) hosts a two-day virtual media workshop (January 2026) for journalists in the Western Balkans interested in reporting on environmental threats and solutions. Applicants can be from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo. EJN will award 10-12 grants to journalists to support in-depth reporting on the different threats to biodiversity and innovative and scalable solutions to protect and conserve ecosystems. German Government — International Climate Initiative Small Grants
Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) supports projects on climate change mitigation and adaptation, and biodiversity projects that have climate relevance. The focus of the IKI Small Grants scheme is to provide support to the implementation of projects addressing the global loss of biodiversity in connection with climate change. IKI Small Grants selects project proposals and provides funding between €60 thousand and €200 thousand. Not-for-profit organizations and for-profit non-government organizations, if they pursue strictly non-profit objectives, are eligible to apply. The deadline for applications is 15 January 2026. Senckenberg — Global Fellowships
Senckenberg offers fellowships to early-career scientists (doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers) from the Global South. Fellowships are offered for a 3-month period to establish and/or strengthen collaboration with scientific staff at Senckenberg. The Waterloo Foundation manages an Environment Fund that supports projects to manage and conserve tropical rainforests. Applications are invited from UK charities in partnership with local organizations in the developing world, and from non-UK organizations that can provide suitable references in the UK. United Nations Environment Program — Sustainable Public Finance for Biodiversity
The IKI–GIZ “FAST” (Fast-tracking Transformation through Sustainable Public Finance for Biodiversity) Project seeks up to eight implementing partners to support work in Brazil, Costa Rica, Indonesia, and Nigeria. The program aims to help countries redesign public finance systems to align financial flows with biodiversity protection. Activities ( up to US$450 thousand per country) include conducting stocktaking and feasibility analyses on biodiversity-related public finance, capacity needs assessments, analyzing fiscal impacts on biodiversity, forming research networks, and developing indicators linking biodiversity, gender, and public finance. The European Space Agency (ESA) invites young researchers to submit research proposals for the Living Planet Fellowship 2018. Eligible research areas are (1) Advancing Novel Methods and Techniques; and (2) Advancing Earth System Science.
