In support of conservation in the Wallacea Biodiversity Hotspot, CEPF invites letters of inquiry from organizations wishing to work in or affect key biodiversity areas and species in Timor-Leste. Eligibility for funding extends to NGOs, community groups, private enterprises, universities, and other civil society organizations. Typical grants are US$100 thousand for periods of 12 to 30 months, although CEPF will consider proposals up to US$300 thousand for exceptionally qualified applicants. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity in Eastern and Southern Africa
On behalf of the CEPF, Birdlife International announces the 16th and final call for proposals supporting biodiversity conservation in the Eastern Afromontane Hotspot. The eligible countries are Dem Rep Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. The maximum grant is US$20 thousand. Applications need to be submitted by 23 November 2016. Earth Journalism Network — Biodiversity Media Grant
The Internews Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers the Biodiversity Media Grant to support journalism networks and media organizations throughout the world in increasing the capacity of media to cover critical issues of conservation and biodiversity. EJN is especially interested in projects that focus on conservation in high-biodiversity regions of the world such as the Amazon, Central Africa, and Southeast Asia. Preference will be given to applications from or affiliated with professional journalists, media organizations, journalism schools, and the like. EJN will also consider applications by NGOs or environmental groups looking to build the capacity of journalists to cover conservation issues. The average grant will be about US$10 thousand. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Grants for Biodiversity Conservation in the East Melanesian Islands
In partnership with the IUCN, the CEPF makes grants for biodiversity conservation in the East Melanesian Islands. Small and large (>US$20 thousand) grants will address biodiversity conservation in the islands region of Papua New Guinea. Funding is also available for multi-country projects covering the islands region of PNG, Solomon Islands, and/or Vanuatu. West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use — Small Research Grants on Climate Change in West Africa
WASCAL supports research to address the severe challenges posed by climate change in West Africa. WASCAL currently calls for proposals in “Building Local Capacity for Policy-Oriented Research in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in West Africa (BLOC).” BLOC will make small research grants of between €5 thousand to €10 thousand. To be eligible for consideration, research proposals must focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation in West Africa in any of the thematic areas of biodiversity, agriculture, adapted land use, climate systems, education, health, human security, economics, and energy. Priority is given to research teams led by young researchers pursuing a career in government ministries, research, and/or teaching at a public institution in West Africa. The Mitsubishi Corporation Fund for Europe and Africa (MCFEA) makes grants for environmental conservation, environmental education and research, and the relief of poverty. A special priority is projects that combine conservation with the economic and social development of local communities. Grants are to organizations for one year. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Conservation of Rhinos and Tigers 2017
As part of its program “Wildlife Without Borders,” the USFWS makes grants for the conservation of selected wildlife species, including rhinos and tigers. Grants are for applied research, training, conservation management, community outreach, law enforcement, decreased human-wildlife conflicts, and other activities in conservation. Eligibility extends worldwide to qualified and relevant government agencies, other organizations, multi-national secretariats, and individuals. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Conservation in Central America 2017
The USFWS “Wildlife Without Borders” includes a regional program for Central America. The program seeks to conserve priority species and ecosystems across landscapes that have high value for biodiversity in the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, while simultaneously benefiting local communities. The announcement identifies the geographic and thematic priorities. Applications can be accepted from both U.S. and non-U.S. organizations. The deadline for applications is 16 December 2016. Link
World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) — Prince Bernhard Scholarships for Nature Conservation 2017
WWF supports professional training and formal studies of individuals working in disciplines directly relevant to nature conservation. Eligibility extends to mid-career nationals from Africa; Asia and Pacific; Latin America and Caribbean; Eastern Europe; and the Middle East. The maximum grant is CHF 10 thousand for studies or training lasting one year or less. The deadline for applications (English, French, Spanish) is 06 January 2017. Link
