The UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) provides funding for international workshops to stimulate joint research cooperations. The workshop can be held overseas or in the UK. Awards are up to £10 thousand. BBSRC invites applications from countries worldwide, but is particularly interested in promoting further links with Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, EU Member States, India, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan and the USA. Erasmus Mundus — Joint Master Degree in Aquaculture, Environment, and Society
The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Aquaculture, Environment and Society (EM JMD ACES) is a full-time master’s program for two years for European and international students. Applicants are expected to have an appropriate background in aquaculture, marine science, aquatic biology, biology, environmental sciences, marine resources, environmental economics, or environmental policy. Participating students will divide their semesters among universities in the UK, Greece, and France. The program offers limited scholarships to cover tuition fees, living, and travel expenses. The African Graduate Student Research Fund makes awards to African nationals pursuing graduate degrees in mammalogy. U.S. Mission to South Africa — Empowering Girls in STEM
The U.S. Mission to South Africa announces an open competition for non-profit organizations and academic institutions to submit applications to develop and implement a program that will encourage young women in South Africa to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The project should focus on girls between the ages of 8 to 13 and recruit female scientists who can talk about their own careers and experiences as professionals while serving as mentors and presenters. African Academy of Sciences — Grand Challenges Africa Transition to Scale Funding
With funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the African Academy of Sciences announces follow-on and scale up funding to help Africa achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The call is focused on solutions targeting healthcare and other developmental problems in the African Continent. Funding is based on the applicants’ budget for scale: Scale 1 – up to US$250 thousand for 24 months, Scale 2 – up to US$500 thousand for 36 months, Scale 3&4 – up to US$1 million.
