In partnership with the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Brazil’s National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) invites young scientists from developing countries other than Brazil to pursue postdoctoral research in natural sciences at selected Brazilian research institutions for periods of 6-12 months. Subject areas include agricultural sciences, biological sciences, and many others. CNPq will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs such as accommodation, food, and health insurance. The application deadline is 11 August 2017. Link

Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology — Research Proposals 2018-2019
The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP) welcomes research proposals in support of its program “Forging Ahead with Tropical Biology for Environmental and Societal Transformations in Southeast Asia.” The focal areas are restoration of degraded ecosystems; sustainable management of intensively-used ecosystems and landscapes; and conservation and sustainable use of unique ecosystems and landscapes of high biodiversity. CRDF Global — Conference of Asia Pacific Biosafety Association
CRDF offers travel support to early-career bioscience and veterinary professionals in Southeast Asia to participate in the conference of the Asia Pacific Biosafety Assocation scheduled for August 2017. Applications are welcome from individuals in key positions related to biosafety or biosecurity in their respective institutions and regions. Priority is for applicants from Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Consideration will also be given to applicants from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. The British Council supports research workshops under the programs Researcher Links and the Newton Fund to assist early-career researchers from the UK and partner countries to interact and explore research collaborations. Instrumentl — Grants for Wildlife, Marine Sciences, and Plant Sciences
Instrumentl is a team of former nonprofit development staff, scientists, and software engineers who share the aim of helping researchers to find and apply for grants. The focus is researchers within the ecological and environmental sciences. Organization for Tropical Studies — Research Fellowship Program 2017
The OTS manages a research fellowship program to support field research in tropical biology and related fields. The program offers three types of awards: pilot awards for exploratory research; thesis research fellowships; and ECTS-GS fellowships. Most awards are restricted to three OTS field stations in Costa Rica. Exceptions are one annual fellowship for research at the Cocha Cashu field station in Peru, and the Hovore-Horn Entomology awards in any Latin American country. Proposals may be submitted in English or Spanish. The application deadlines are 01 March and 01 October. Link

Inter-Research Science Center — Ecology Prizes 2017. The International Ecology Institute in Germany annually selects top performers worldwide in the field of ecology for the Ecology Institute Prize and the IRPE Prize. The winner of the Ecology Institute Prize will be awarded €6 thousand; the winner of the IRPE Prize will receive €3 thousand. Nominations are invited from research ecologists worldwide. International Livestock Research Institute — Training in Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics
The Biosciences eastern and central Africa-International Livestock Research Institute (BecA-ILRI) Hub seeks to strengthen the capacity of the African scientific community to conduct bioscience research that will improve agricultural products and enhance food security. In support of building science capacity, the BecA-ILRI Hub is partnering with the Rwanda Agriculture Board to hold a training workshop on “Introduction to Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics” in May 2017. Applications are welcomed from qualified individuals at research institutes and universities in Burundi, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Congo, Dem Rep Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences — Training in Taxonomy and Collection Management 2017
The Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences is the country’s focal point for the Global Taxonomy Initiative (GTI). Qualified individuals from developing countries supported by Belgian Development Cooperation can apply for study visits in Belgium to train in taxonomic projects and biodiversity assessment projects that have strong taxonomic components. Priority is given to projects in the following countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Dem Rep Congo, Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda. French Institute for Development Research — Research on Plant Biodiversity, Call 2
Funded by IRD in collaboration with several other French organizations, the program “Sud Expert Plantes Développement Durable” (SEP2D) aims to reinforce scientific research on plant biodiversity in 22 tropical countries. The eligible countries are distributed across West Africa; Central Africa; Indian Ocean; and Southeast Asia. Research themes in SEP2D are forest biodiversity; mitigation of mining activities; commercial applications of plant biodiversity; and agro-biodiversity. In comparison with the first call for proposals, Call 2 does not require prior co-funding. Additionally, research institutions or operational actors (NGOs, private or public societies, associations and CSOs, etc) are eligible to lead the partnerships. Funding is up to €40 thousand for national projects, and up to €80 thousand for regional and international projects. The application deadline is 01 March 2017. Link
