UK Government — Transforming Energy Access in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia
The UK Government invests up to £10 million in technologies that will help countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia access secure, low cost and low carbon energy. (Note: £3 million of the funding is set aside for bioenergy projects.) International applicants must apply as part of a collaboration with a UK organisation. Munich Re Foundation — RISK Award “Coastal Resilience”
The RISK Award seeks operational projects in the field of risk reduction and disaster management. The prize will provide financial support of €100 thousand to projects dedicated to increasing people’s resilience to risks and disasters, especially in developing countries. The submitted projects may concentrate on population development, water as a resource, and other risk factors, including climate change. The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) calls for the digital registration of women-owned agribusinesses in Eastern and Southern Africa to create a agribusiness intelligence network targeting women agri-entrepreneurs. The programme initiative named VALUE4HER aims to increase incomes for women through access to markets, finance, improving knowledge and capacity. Registered agribusinesses will be eligible for management and leadership training and have a chance to apply for a competitive grant. Women-owned agribusinesses in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho, Namibia, Angola, and Swaziland are eligible. The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) launches a call to support the implementation of the effective use of digital technologies for agricultural transformation in Africa. Activities financed under this Call must facilitate the use of mechanized equipment by smallholder farmers and be implemented in at least two African countries. USAID seeks applications for a Cooperative Agreement from qualified entities to implement the “USAID/Senegal Feed the Future Fisheries, Biodiversity & Livelihoods (FBL)” Activity. The purpose of the five-year Feed the Future Senegal Fisheries Biodiversity and Livelihoods Activity is to improve management of fisheries for ecological sustainability. The international coalition of the EPRM is designed to improve conditions in and around mines and for the miners concerned in conflict-affected and high-risk areas. Projects should aim to improve the social, humanitarian, and environmental aspects of mining. Applicants may be companies, knowledge institutions, public or semi-public bodies, or NGOs in any combination and registered in any country. The maximum grant for a project is €340 thousand. The Australian Government seeks applications for its Direct Aid Program (DAP) 2018/2019. DAP supports small-scale sustainable development projects and activities in the fields of agriculture; water and sanitation; environment/conservation; and others. The High Commission accepts project proposals from Benin, Cameroon, Gabon, Gambia, Niger and Nigeria. Funding of up to AUD60 thousand is available to community groups, NGOs, private sector entities, academic institutions, or other organisations engaged in development activities on a not-for-profit basis. Siemens Stiftung sponsors the “empowering people. Award” as a means to identify and showcase relatively simple and smart technological solutions that have business potential to combat poverty in developing and emerging countries. The categories include water and waste water; energy; food and agriculture; waste management; and several others. The products or solutions to be submitted have to already be in use. The competition is open to any individual, team, organization, or enterprise from any region in the world. The top three prizes are €50 thousand, €30 thousand, and €20 thousand, respectively.
