UN-Habitat and its partners are sponsoring a conference in Canada, scheduled for March 2018, on the subject of cities and the science of climate change. The conference will assess the current state of academic and practice-based knowledge about climate change, identifying gaps and sharing best practices. The conference organizers welcome proposals for events and abstracts for oral sessions. The conference has limited funding available to support the travel of selected applicants from developing countries. Additional funds may be mobilized for the participation of early-career scientists and professionals. The submission deadline is 06 October 2017. European Commission — Mediterranean Cross-Border Cooperation
The EC announces the first call for proposals of the ENI CBC “Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2014-2020″. The program aims to promote business and entrepreneurship (including in agriculture), and to promote coordination of efforts for environmental protection and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Project partnerships should be composed of a minimum of three eligible countries, including at least one EU Mediterranean Country and one Mediterranean Partner Country. United Nations Global Pulse — Big Ideas to Combat Climate Change in Asia
UN Global Pulse is partnering with the Republic of Korea to sponsor a Big Ideas Competition focusing on data-driven ideas to monitor climate-related indicators in the Asia-Pacific region. Proposals should detail original ideas that can be developed into a working prototype. The competition is open to residents of ASEAN member states, Sri Lanka, and the Republic of Korea. Applicants will compete for 12 country prizes, three excellence prizes, and one grand prize — with the total prize amount standing at US$35 thousand. International Coral Reef Initiative & UN Environment — Grants for Management of Coral Reefs 2017
The ICRI and UN Environmental Grants Programme invite concept notes for projects on sustainable management of coral reefs. Grants up to US$60 thousand will be awarded to projects aimed at contributing to the implementation of the ICRI plan of action and at protecting and preserving coral reefs and/or related ecosystems. The particular emphasis is building climate resilience and facilitating coral recovery. Grants are available to governments, NGOs, and community groups for projects implemented in developing countries, least-developed countries, and small-island developing states. UN-Habitat — Youth Photography Competition on Climate Change
UN-Habitat is inviting young photographers to participate in a photography contest. The participants should represent solutions to climate change in their communities. The winner of this contest will be sponsored to a fully funded trip to COP-23 in Bonn, Germany where their work will be displayed to gain exposure on a global platform. World Meteorological Organization — International Prize for Model Development 2017
The World Climate Research Programme and the Global Climate Observing System invite nominations for the WCRP/WWRP International Prize for Model Development. The prize is awarded annually to an early- to mid-career researcher for outstanding contributions to model development related to weather and climate. Candidates should be within the first ten years of their career, as measured by receipt of a PhD or equivalent highest qualification. The prize encompasses a certificate, as well as funding for the recipient to present at a major conference or meeting of her/his choice. The deadline for nominations is 01 October 2017. British Council — Research Workshops on Biodiversity, UK and Latin America
The UK’s Newton Fund helps fund regional workshops that bring together early-career researchers from the UK and partner countries to allow them to make international connections. The current call will support workshops on research related to biodiversity and connected topics of climate change, bio-economy, and sustainability. The partner countries are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru. Applications are invited from the institutions of early-career researchers in the UK and these partner countries. Stockholm Treaty Lab — Investing in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation
The Stockholm Treaty Lab Prize will be awarded to a team that drafts the most forward-looking, innovative, and workable Model Treaty to encourage foreign investment in climate change mitigation and adaptation. The contest is open to anyone worldwide, with emphasis on multidisciplinary teams – e.g., including lawyers, economists, scientists, and climate change experts. The Model Treaty needs to be compatible with the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.The winning entry will be offered global exposure and an opportunity to engage on a global level. YOUNGO — Global South Scholarships to attend COP23 and COY13 on Climate Change
Youngo offers complete financial support and capacity building training to participate at UN Climate Change Conference and 13th Conference Of Youth (COY13) in November, 2017 in Bonn, Germany. Young people around the world can actively engage in the effort to address climate change. The program shall cover all costs of travel, accommodation, visa, travel insurance fee, food, local transport and other costs for the selected applicants. Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data — Data for Development Projects, 2nd Round
The GPSDD seeks innovative proposals for data production, dissemination, and use. This year’s call is anchored around two themes: “Leave No One Behind,” and the Environment. The focus in Environment is to bring together new sources of data (big data, geospatial and earth observation, citizen-generated, IoT, and open data) to support environmental challenges related to climate change and urban resilience. Smaller amounts of funding (starting at US$25 thousand) are made for riskier, unproven innovations at the pilot stage. Larger amounts of funding (up to US$250 thousand) will be awarded to proposals which have a clear justification. The pilot funding round will close on 01 September 2017. Link
