Blue Earth sponsors photography projects that educate the public about threatened cultures, endangered environments, and other social concerns. Blue Earth provides assistance with fund raising, publishing, and publicity. However, it does not make direct grants to sponsored projects. Association of African Universities — Small Grants for Theses and Dissertations
The AAU is pleased to announce the 2017 session of its Small Grants for Theses and Dissertations. The programme aims to facilitate timely completion of post-graduate research in subjects that include agriculture and food security; environment and climate; and others. Applicants should be post-graduate students enrolled in AAU member institutions. Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network — Climate Change Storytelling Competition
The Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network, in partnership with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, announces the ACCCRN Storytelling Competition 2017. The competition invites climate stories about impacts, actions, and innovations under the theme “Beat the Heat: How inclusive cities are coping with rising temperatures”. Shortlisted finalists will be invited to attend an Urban Heat Resilience storytelling workshop from 27-30 November 2017 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The deadline for story submissions is 30 September 2017. UK Met Office — Collaboration with Brazil in Climate Science
The Climate Science for Service Partnership Brazil (CSSP Brazil) announces grants for UK researchers on subjects of climate change and disaster risk in Brazil. The focal areas are models of vegetation dynamics; the use of in-situ forest observations and measurements to evaluate models; the use of regional-scale observations and measurements to evaluate models; and detection and attribution of impacts of climate change in Brazil. Scottish Government — International Development Small Grants 2018
The Scottish Government’s International Development Small Grants Programme provides project funding in support of the government’s International Development Policy. Applications for grants are invited from incorporated not-for-profit organisations which have a presence in Scotland and an annual turnover of less than £200 thousand. Project grants should focus on any of Malawi, Rwanda, or Zambia in themes of food security; renewable energy; climate change; water; and others. Grants for capacity building and feasibility studies will be accepted in relation to any country designated as medium/low on the UN’s Human Development Index — but with priority for Malawi, Rwanda, and Zambia. Awards are a maximum of £60 thousand for project grants over three years, or a maximum of £10 thousand for feasibility and capacity building grants over one year. Innovate UK — UK-Guangdong Urban Innovation Challenge 2017
Innovate UK and the Guangdong Department of Science and Technology seek to support innovative urban solutions in Guangdong province, China. The themes include smart platforms for sustainable urban environments, as well as others. Total project costs can range from £350 thousand to £500 thousand for projects of up to two years. Canadian International Development Research Center — Building African Capacity to Address Climate Change
The Africa Climate Leadership Program (AfriCLP) awards training fellowships to build leadership capacity in Africa in response to climate change. Funded by Canada’s IDRC, the program is managed by the University of Nairobi and the Institute of Resource Assessment at the University of Dar es Salaam. The program is open to mid-level and senior researchers who have the potential to become leaders in their field. Selected climate change leaders in Africa will take part in training seminars allowing them to develop and test their ideas. The deadline for submissions is 30 September 2017. UN-Habitat — Conference on Cities and Climate Change Science
UN-Habitat and its partners are sponsoring a conference in Canada, scheduled for March 2018, on the subject of cities and the science of climate change. The conference will assess the current state of academic and practice-based knowledge about climate change, identifying gaps and sharing best practices. The conference organizers welcome proposals for events and abstracts for oral sessions. The conference has limited funding available to support the travel of selected applicants from developing countries. Additional funds may be mobilized for the participation of early-career scientists and professionals. The submission deadline is 06 October 2017. European Commission — Mediterranean Cross-Border Cooperation
The EC announces the first call for proposals of the ENI CBC “Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2014-2020″. The program aims to promote business and entrepreneurship (including in agriculture), and to promote coordination of efforts for environmental protection and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Project partnerships should be composed of a minimum of three eligible countries, including at least one EU Mediterranean Country and one Mediterranean Partner Country. United Nations Global Pulse — Big Ideas to Combat Climate Change in Asia
UN Global Pulse is partnering with the Republic of Korea to sponsor a Big Ideas Competition focusing on data-driven ideas to monitor climate-related indicators in the Asia-Pacific region. Proposals should detail original ideas that can be developed into a working prototype. The competition is open to residents of ASEAN member states, Sri Lanka, and the Republic of Korea. Applicants will compete for 12 country prizes, three excellence prizes, and one grand prize — with the total prize amount standing at US$35 thousand.
