Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate — Grant Program

The Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate (GCBC) funds research into natural solutions to climate change and poverty. The GCBC makes grants that fund research into how the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity can help address climate change and improve livelihoods of some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. The geographic focus is in Latin America and the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia and the Pacific. The application closes 20 July 2023. Climate Grant Program

Inter-American Development Bank — Climate Change and its Nexus with Gender and Diversity

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) seeks research proposals that contribute to measuring and evaluating solutions for addressing climate change and promoting an inclusive transition to a greener economy. The initiative seeks to advance knowledge development regarding the existing inequalities between men and women, as well as inequalities faced by Indigenous Peoples, people of African descent, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people. The fourth edition of this call focuses on the topic of climate change and its nexus with gender and diversity. Funding may range from US$20 thousand to US$100 thousand. International Development Research Centre — Regional Research Networks

The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) announces a call for full proposals for the selection of regional research hubs to advance skills and policies for an inclusive and sustainable future of work. This initiative supports high-quality, innovative and gender responsive research that addresses key Future of Work challenges, including climate-resilient food systems. Regional research hubs can submit budget requests of up to a maximum of CA$1.7 million. IDRC is expecting to fund 5 regional research hubs in Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, MENA and LAC. European Commission — Development of Green Energies in Haiti

The European Commission (EC) seeks to reduce Haiti’s vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. The EC will fund the development and better penetration of renewable energies at the local level. Applicants may request up to €1.6 million in project funding. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations. The deadline for submission of concept notes is 07 July 2023. More information

Climate and Clean Air Coalition — Reduce short-lived Climate Pollutants

The Climate and Clean Air Coalition launches a call for opportunities to advance national policy and planning to reduce short-lived climate pollutants in 23 countries. The CCAC currently accepts proposals for projects that fulfill specific services requested by partner countries. The estimated funding amount varies by service and country. Only not-for-profit organizations are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted by 10 September 2023. Click here

Horizon2020 — Venture Showcase Africa

The African European Digital Innovation Bridge (AEDIB) program is an EU/Horizon2020-funded initiative, aiming to accelerate the growth of African startups with disruptive solutions in Climate Smart Agriculture, Smart Cities, Digital Trade or Clean Tech. Companies get visibility with investors throughout the selection and interview process. Finalists receive mentorship and technical advice directly from the angel investors. Eligibility extends to for-profit companies with a product or service available on the market. At least one of the founders needs to have an African nationality from Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, or Uganda. Earth Journalism Network — Media Workshop on Natural Resource Governance

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) hosts a media workshop with the aim to improve journalists’ knowledge and reporting skills to tell impactful and in-depth stories about natural resources governance in the Mekong region. The three-day workshop will be held in English in early July, at a venue in Thailand. Following the training, participants will be invited to pitch story ideas. EJN will award 16 grants of US$1,500 each to journalists to produce their proposed stories. The workshop is open to applicants from the five Mekong countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. The application deadline is 21 May 2023. Mekong Media Workshop

Agora Energiewende — Climate and Energy Transformation

Agora Energiewende invites applications for the EnerTracks Fellowship Program. Up to eight fellows will be invited to come to Berlin (Germany) while each fellow continues working part-time for their home institution. The fellowship offers multi-disciplinary sessions covering a variety of topics such as energy markets, power system flexibility, and research methodologies, among others. Applicants must be nationals of an Official Development Aid country and be currently employed or affiliated to a think tank or other civil society organization and/or an academic body. Fellows receive a travel grant covering half of the costs of participants’ international travel expenses, accommodation in Berlin, and a modest daily stipend. Swedish Research Council — Sustainability and Resilience Research

The Swedish Research Council funds research projects of particular relevance to the fight against poverty and for sustainable development in least developed countries. Up to 6 researchers can propose a joint research project. At least one researcher from a least developed or lower middle income country must participate. The grant amount will fall between SEK 400 thousand and SEK 2 million per year for a maximum of 3 years. The closing date for applications is 23 May 2023. Link

ProposalsforNGOs — Small Grant Competition 2023

ProposalsforNGOs, an initiative by FundsforNGOs, invites applications for the “Small Grant Competition” aimed at NGOs around the world. The contest aims to help grassroots NGOs to develop a project idea to reality by submitting a one-page concept note. The winner will be awarded US$1000.
