Earth Journalism Network — Seed Grants to Support Climate and Environmental Journalism

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers media grants to immigrant, Black, Indigenous and people of color-serving newsrooms and media collectives in the United States and Canada to support innovative, investigative, and/or enterprise reporting projects on environmental or climate change. EJN anticipates supporting three organizations with grants of US$8,000 each. Immigrant and/or BIPOC-serving media in the United States and Canada are eligible to apply. Climate Tracker — Climate Journalism Mentorship Program

Climate Tracker invited applications for the Climate Journalism Mentoring Program, exclusive to Latin America. Journalists from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, and Venezuela will publish stories on the impact of the climate crisis in the region, with a focus on the transition to fair energy. International Research & Exchanges Board — Community Solutions Program

The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) seeks applications for its Community Solutions Program (CSP) with the aim to improve communities by addressing issues related to the environment, among others. The Community Solutions Program is a year-long professional development program with a four-month fellowship in the United States. To be eligible, applicants must be between the ages of 26 and 39 (as of 01 January 2025). Eligible countries from Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, Eastern Europe, East Asia and the Pacific, South and Central Asia, and Latin America are listed in the announcement. Wellcome Trust — Career Development Awards

The Wellcome Trust supports bold and creative discovery research that has the potential to improve human life, health, and well-being. Career Development Awards provide funding for mid-career researchers from any discipline who have the potential to be international research leaders. Research can be in any discipline, including STEM, experimental medicine, or climate – as long as it has the potential to improve human life. The Trust provides a salary for the grant holder and research expenses for up to 8 years. The applicant’s host organization has to be based in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, or a low- or middle-income country (apart from India and mainland China). Climate Technology Centre & Network — Youth Climate Innovation Program

The Youth Climate Innovation (YCI) Program supports young innovators from developing countries as they develop high-impact climate technology solutions that are both locally relevant and globally adaptable. Participants benefit from mentorship, coaching and access to a network of investors and institutions focused on climate technology. The program is open to individuals and teams between 18 and 35 years old from Africa, MENA, Latin America and the Caribbean, or Asia-Pacific. The application deadline is 20 October 2024. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations — Mountain Future Award

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) invites institutions and individuals to submit proposals for transformative mountain projects. Projects must focus on the significant challenges mountain areas face today, including food insecurity, climate change impact, biodiversity loss, poverty, and loss of traditional knowledge. Winning projects will receive seed funding of US$5,000 and project incubation assistance. New projects and projects in the initial planning stages are eligible; ongoing projects are not. Yale University — Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship

The Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship aims to create a community of committed clean energy and climate change leaders from emerging and developing countries. Fellows will engage in a series of interactive sessions with prominent Yale faculty and practitioners to set the terms of the global climate change debate. Applicants should be between five and 10 years into their professional careers and be representatives of the Global South (Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America/Caribbean). German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development — African-German Leadership Academy

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) offers an innovative training program for early to mid-career professionals from Germany and African partner countries. The training aims to capacitate professionals to engage in addressing significant global challenges, such as climate change and economic disparity. Participants of the Leadership Academy must be nationals or permanent residents of Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Togo, or Zambia, and work on issues relevant to sustainable development. The Climate Democracy Accelerator (CDA) is a six-month, practice-oriented training and support program. Participants will develop a project to implement a climate-focused participatory program that addresses the needs and voices of local communities. Campus France — Visiting Fellowship for Early Career Researchers

The Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA) initiative calls for applications from young researchers who wish to carry out their research in France. MOPGA intends to award 40 fellowships for a duration of 12 months with a monthly allowance of €2,500. Eligible research themes include climate change and energy transition.
