The project is expected to develop an operational more advanced multi-risk assessment framework tool, enhance adaptive capacity of communities and reduce vulnerability to climate change. To be eligible for funding, applicants must be established in the European Union, the Overseas Countries and Territories of the EU, or low- and middle-income countries. The European Commission provides Consolidator Grants to experienced researchers with a scientific track record. ERC Grants support projects carried out by an individual researcher who can employ researchers of any nationality as team members. Applications can be made in any field of research. Proposed research projects under this program must be conducted in a public or private research organization located in one of the EU Member States or Associated Countries. Asian Development Bank — Atoll Youth Climate Leaders
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) seeks 15 youth from atoll nations who are passionate and committed to being young leaders for change through climate action. The selected youth will be part of the project on “Catalyzing Youth-led Climate Action” and undergo capacity building through a series of training sessions. After capacity building, project teams will work on youth-led climate project demonstrations to be presented at the Ocean Conference (Palau, April 2022). Participants will each receive a certificate of completion from ADB Youth for Asia as well as a daily allowance and communication support for a total of 50 days. Eligibility extends to youth aged 18-30 years old currently living in any of the atoll nations (Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Tuvalu, or the Maldives). Initiative for Climate Action Transparency — Methodology of Climate Finance
The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) seeks a grantee to develop a methodology that supports the tracking of climate finance at the national level, links climate action to climate finance, and enables the integration of such data in a country’s transparency framework. The grantee will also provide technical support to up to three developing countries in developing a national framework to assess the climate finance needed. KU Leuven — PhD Scholarships for Students from the Global South
KU Leuven is the largest university in Flanders, Belgium. As one part of its cooperation to advance international development, KU Leuven offers 10 PhD scholarships to candidates from developing countries. The university offers sandwich scholarships, which means that 50% of the research takes place at KU Leuven and 50% at the home institution of the scholar, as well as full-time research at KU Leuven (4 years). The scholarships are offered to proposals that deal with a development-relevant research topic, preferably linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. U.S. Mission to Pakistan — Addressing Environment Protection and Climate Change to Promote Tourism
The U.S. Consulate announces funding to increase environmental awareness among people in Pakistan and address threats to the local environment and the impact that those threats may have on economic development. The project aims to better equip citizens in the northern areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with strategies to protect the environment and make the area more attractive to regional and international tourists. The grantee will carry out research on best practices for citizen activism and sustainable environmental tourism, with a particular focus on U.S. best practices. Village Capital seeks small and medium-sized enterprises and startups that are scaling market-based and contextualized solutions to critical climate adaptation and resilience challenges. Participants from Africa and Asia will have access to a one-week intensive virtual training program. Eligibility extends to companies developing or offering products and/or services (ideally technology-enabled) that increase the resilience of target users to the impacts of climate change. European Commission — Biodiversity in Outermost Regions
The European Commission (EC) announces a call for proposals to finance small grants for biodiversity conservation and restoration action in the EU outermost regions and overseas countries located in the Caribbean, Indian Ocean, Amazon, Pacific, Polar and Subpolar and Micronesian regions. The available overall budget is €32 million. In order to be eligible, the applicants must be legal entities, be established in EU Member States or overseas countries and territories and be active in the areas of nature conservation and climate change. Inter-American Development Bank — Urban Challenges in Latin America
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) launches the challenge Cities for All, which seeks to identify urban challenges in Latin American and Caribbean cities. The call focuses on vulnerability and resilience to climate change and natural disasters, among other themes. Three teams will be selected to receive technical assistance of up to $35 thousand, to work on the implementation of a prototype or pilot project.
