World Tourism Organization — SDGs Global Startup Competition

The UNWTO Sustainable Development Goals Global Startup Competition seeks innovative startups that directly contribute to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The competition features 17 categories, each one representing a Sustainable Development Goal. Startups from all over the world and all economic sectors are invited to participate. The winning startups receive a pitch at a UNWTO Demo Day, capacity and business development training, access to technological support, and connection to the UNWTO Innovation Network. Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries — Special Call for Proposals on Firms and Climate Change

The Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries (PEDL) Initiative announces a special research grant program specifically related to understanding the relationship between private sector development and the environment. The objective of PEDL is to fund cutting-edge, policy-oriented research that could be published in leading academic journals. Exploratory Research Grant (ERG) are grants of between £10 thousand and £40 thousand. Grants will fund research assistance, data collection and new surveys in LICs. World Meteorological Organization — International Prize for Earth Science Data

The World Climate Research Programme and the Global Climate Observing System invite nominations for the WCRP/GCOS International Data Prize. The prize will be awarded to an early- to mid-career researcher for outstanding contributions to the Earth system science community. The prize honors achievements in data collection for climate change research. Candidates should be within the first ten years of their career, as measured by receipt of a PhD or equivalent highest qualification. The prize encompasses a certificate, as well as funding for the recipient to present at a major conference or meeting of her/his choice. The deadline for nominations is 30 September 2020. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Environment and Climate Action in Belarus

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Belarus. CFLI provides funding to projects that implement environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, and water management, among other thematic priorities. The average contribution is C$20 thousand to C$25 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to community organizations, non-profit organizations, local governments, academic institutions, and international non-profit organizations. Climate Tracker — Sustainability Solutions Stories Fellowship

Climate Tracker seeks journalists to report on sustainability challenges such as tourism, agriculture, water, and other aspects. Successful applicants will enjoy a 6-month fellowship covering the challenges and opportunities surrounding sustainability in their country/region. Fellows receive coaching and mentoring plus a US$150 stipend per month for the duration of their fellowship to cover expenses. Applicants have to have at least one year of journalism experience. The Spindle — Digital Innovations for Africa, Asia and Latin America

The Spindle seeks the 30 most inspiring Digital Innovations from all over the world and from all types of organizations who are working towards a sustainable, just and inclusive world. The digital innovation or technology should contribute to closer cooperation between organisations working on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The 30 selected participants have the chance to record a pitch video with a professional filmmaker and will present their product during the Partos Innovation Festival (October 2020) to potential partners and investors. Pan African Climate Justice Alliance — African Climate Change and Environmental Reporting Awards

The African Climate Change and Environmental Reporting (ACCER) Awards aim to incentivize and create a critical mass of journalists reporting on the area of climate change and environment. The 2020 ACCER Awards contest theme is “Making Climate Action a Way of Life.” The award defines five categories for the submission of in-depth climate stories. The competition is open to all journalists from Africa working for established media houses, private or public-sector media. Freelance journalists and bloggers are also eligible. French Global Environment Facility — Sustainable Cooling and Air Conditioning

The French Global Environment Facility (FFEM) launches a new call for projects to support innovations for “Sustainable Cold Production and Air Conditioning” in developing countries. Proposed projects should focus the development of sustainable cooling or air conditioning technologies and approaches, for example, “natural” refrigerants, which are more energy efficient. Projects may be proposed in connection with the transfer of skills and technologies through capacity building programs. Eligibility extends to developing countries, with priority given to applicants from the African continent. Funding ranges from €500 thousand to €3 million per project. Climate Tracker — Sustainable Food Media Fellowship

Climate Tracker launches the Sustainable Food Media Fellowship to fund journalists from Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia to work on investigative reports about the production of food and access to sustainable diets in their home country. Stories may focus on food security in the context of COVID-19, the impacts of climate change on agriculture, or the environmental footprint of agriculture practices. Participants receive a 4-week online course followed by an 8-week fellowship to develop and publish their stories. Eligibility extends to African journalists between the ages of 18 to 35. The Photo Contest is open to professional and non-professional photographers worldwide. Participants are invited to submit real pictures showing their development project and progress in local communities around the world.
