EPIC-N, in partnership with the UN Environment’s Global Adaptation Network and START, offer a learning workshop on increasing climate-resilience and sustainability in Asian countries. The workshop aims to strengthen capacities for adaptation and resilience by forming key partnerships between city officials and local universities. The learning process requires pairs of candidates (at least one person from a local university and at least one person from a local municipal/city government within the same area). Television for the Environment (tve) seeks entries for the Global Sustainability Awards (GSFA). The tve Global Sustainability Film Awards recognizes outstanding films that inspire audiences with real-world solutions for a more sustainable future. Films need to address a relevant sustainable development goal and cogently explain its importance or show a relevant solution. To be eligible for GSFA 2020 all entered films must be made between the period July 2018 and July 2020. The competition is open to any company, organization or individual in any country. Filmmakers Without Borders — Support for Independent Filmmakers
Filmmakers Without Borders seeks applications for its Filmmaking Grants to support independent filmmakers around the world via grants and other funding initiatives. Supported projects include narrative films, documentary films, and new media projects that align with themes of social justice, empowerment, and climate change. Grants are available for all of the following stages of production: Development (up to US$1,000); Production (up to US$5,000); Post-production: (up to US$2,500); and Film Festival Applications (up to US$750). Adaptation Fund — Readiness Grants
The Adaptation Fund announces that small grants are available under the Climate Finance Readiness Programme. South-South Cooperation grants are intended to increase peer-to-peer support among accredited National Implementing Entities (NIEs) and those seeking accreditation. Project Formulation Grants (up to a maximum of US$50 thousand) help build the capacity of NIEs in project preparation and design. Technical Assistance Grants are aimed at strengthening the capacity of NIEs in the areas of environmental, social, and gender risk management. Africa-China Reporting Project — Online Environmental Journalism Training Workshop
The Africa-China Reporting Project (ACRP)and China Dialogue invite African and Chinese journalists interested in environmental journalism to apply for an online environmental journalism training workshop. ACRP and China Dialogue aim to provide training and resources to support high quality journalism on Africa-China relations, particularly focused on African climate and environmental issues. Earth Journalism Network — Asia-Pacific Story Grants
The Earth Journalism Network makes reporting grants to support the production of in-depth stories that highlight previously untold threats to global biodiversity, or explore new conservation-based solutions in the Asia-Pacific region. Story ideas that uncover corruption, address the safety of environmental defenders, and call out state and business practices that are impacting negatively on the environment and the lives of local communities are particularly welcome. Eligibility for funding extends to journalists (online, print, television) and other expert media practitioners with a track record of reporting on environmental issues. European Commission — Environmental and Climate Development in Brazil
The European Commission (EC) seeks to promote sustainable and inclusive development in Brazil by supporting and strengthening local civil society organizations. Proposed projects under this call must: (a) strengthen the participation of civil society in the implementation of international agreements in environmental and/or climate areas, (b) develop sustainable socio-economic post-pandemic activities in the Amazon, or (c) support indigenous peoples in the Amazon. Grants requested under this call must be between €400 thousand and €650 thousand. Eligibility extends to Brazilian non-profit civil society organizations. World Tourism Organization — SDGs Global Startup Competition
The UNWTO Sustainable Development Goals Global Startup Competition seeks innovative startups that directly contribute to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The competition features 17 categories, each one representing a Sustainable Development Goal. Startups from all over the world and all economic sectors are invited to participate. The winning startups receive a pitch at a UNWTO Demo Day, capacity and business development training, access to technological support, and connection to the UNWTO Innovation Network. Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries — Special Call for Proposals on Firms and Climate Change
The Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries (PEDL) Initiative announces a special research grant program specifically related to understanding the relationship between private sector development and the environment. The objective of PEDL is to fund cutting-edge, policy-oriented research that could be published in leading academic journals. Exploratory Research Grant (ERG) are grants of between £10 thousand and £40 thousand. Grants will fund research assistance, data collection and new surveys in LICs. World Meteorological Organization — International Prize for Earth Science Data
The World Climate Research Programme and the Global Climate Observing System invite nominations for the WCRP/GCOS International Data Prize. The prize will be awarded to an early- to mid-career researcher for outstanding contributions to the Earth system science community. The prize honors achievements in data collection for climate change research. Candidates should be within the first ten years of their career, as measured by receipt of a PhD or equivalent highest qualification. The prize encompasses a certificate, as well as funding for the recipient to present at a major conference or meeting of her/his choice. The deadline for nominations is 30 September 2020.
