Projects are funded for a maximum duration of 12 months with a contribution of up to C$165 thousand. Grantees must be local communities, indigenous communities, academia, or non-governmental organizations located in Canada, Mexico, or the USA. The Toyota Foundation’s Research Grant Program is titled “Exploring New Values for Society”. It supports ambitious projects that adopt a panoramic view of the world and look generations into the future. Several past grants have focused on issues of climate, environment, biodiversity, and related topics. The program offers joint research grants (i.e., for team research), and individual research grants. The grant amount per project is up to 8 million yen. United Nations University — ProSPER.Net Leadership Program 2019
The UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability is the Secretariat for ProSPER.Net (Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research Network) in the Asia-Pacific region. The ProSPER.Net Leadership Programme helps its participants to develop interdisciplinary skills for sustainable development initiatives in local, regional, or global contexts. This year’s theme is ‘Engineering Approaches to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Towards Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region’. In partnership with Microsoft, the National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world that focus on the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to better monitor and manage Earth’s natural systems for a more sustainable future. The grants will support the creation and deployment of open source trained models and algorithms in the focus core areas of climate change, agriculture, and water. Frida — Climate and Environmental Justice Media Fellowship
In partnership with OpenGlobalRights, FRIDA provides a 5-month training program to young feminists on climate and environmental justice activism and digital journalism. Women between ages of 18 and 30 based anywhere in Sub Saharan Africa, Asia, the MENA region, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe are eligible to apply. Fellows will receive mentorship and are expected to dedicate 4-5 hours per week (total of 15-20 hours per month) from August to December 2019. Applications are submitted through a short Google form.
