The West Africa Biodiversity and Climate Change (WA BiCC) Program seeks to improve biodiversity conservation and promote climate-resilient and low-emission development across West Africa. WA BiCC invites concept notes from qualifying grant applicants interested in developing public- private partnerships (PPPs) that support sustainable natural resource management, combat wildlife trafficking and/or improve eco-friendly and sustainable livelihood development within forest-buffer communities. Awards are anticipated to range from US$50 thousand to US$300 thousand for projects with a duration of up to 12 months. The IPCC Scholarship Programme provides scholarships for PhD students from developing countries for research that advances the understanding of the scientific basis of risks of climate change. Climate Tracker — 10-Month Fellowship on Climate Solutions
Climate Tracker, in partnership with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, seeks five young climate journalists to participate in an online mentorship on climate solutions and journalism. The fellows will receive training on how to write articles on climate change and a monthly stipend of US$150. Applicants that are between 18 and 30 years old and are living in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia, or Asia-Pacific are eligible. To participate, applicants have to write, publish, and submit a 500+ words article (in any language) on local solutions and responses to climate change. European Commission — Promoting Inclusive Development in Fiji
The European Commission seeks to support local Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) as actors of governance and development work in the field. The objective is to increase participation of CSOs in addressing climate change through disaster risk reduction or resilience. Non-profit organizations established in Fiji or the European Union can request grants between €300 thousand and €680 thousand to implement activities that mitigate climate change. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) invites proposals from environmental oriented organizations for community actions and initiatives that aid benefit vulnerable communities and support efforts on sustainable development. SNV Netherlands — Climate Smart Agriculture in East Africa
SNV invites expressions of interest from private sector-led agribusinesses to co-invest in the implementation of business models under the Climate Smart Agriculture East Africa Project (CSA-EA). The goal is to increase the availability of accessible climate smart food for the population in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Selected SMEs and cooperatives will receive a maximum co-investment of 50% or €200 thousand, whichever is lower, for the proposed solutions. Belmont Forum — Funding for Arctic Observation and Research
The Belmont Forum’s collaborative research action on Resilience in Rapidly Changing Arctic Systems (CRA Arctic II) is an initiative to monitor and understand the complex changes occurring in the Arctic. This call supports medium-sized research projects with 3 to 4 years duration, with a recommended budget of up to €1.5 million. Participating countries in this Arctic call are Canada, Denmark, France, Japan, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and USA. All proposals must integrate across the natural sciences and social sciences, and they should include participation by three or more of the partner countries. West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use — Fellowships for Doctoral and Masters Studies
With funding provided by Germany, WASCAL engages in research to help tackle the severe challenges posed by climate change, focusing on West Africa. The WASCAL Graduate Studies Program offers full scholarships to support four master’s and six doctoral programs implemented at ten universities in West African countries. WASCAL’s member countries are Bénin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Niger, Mali, Nigeria, Sénegal, and Togo. Doctoral students may spend up to six months at a host institution in Germany. Graduate students have access to the WASCAL research facilities located in various watersheds of West Africa.
