The GHR Foundation invites proposals that address urgent global challenges in radically new ways. The BridgeBuilder Challenge to invite solutions that connect peace, prosperity, and the planet. Submissions should target a specific, pressing, and solvable need across two or more of these themes. The competition is open to non-profit and for-profit organizations established for at least one year. Proposed projects should not be longer than three years. Awards are up to US$500 thousand. European Commission — Combat Wildlife Trafficking in Asia
The European Commission calls for concept notes on combatting wildlife trafficking and forest crime in the Greater Mekong Region, Malaysia and China. Submitted projects may focus on strengthening the role of indigenous and local community involvement in combatting wildlife trafficking and forest crime, activities that seek to improve security and livelihoods of targeted groups, and activities that seek to limit demand for Asiatic wildlife and forest products, among others. The overall amount made available under this call is €8 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in a member state of the European Union, in an OECD member country, or in Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. U.S. Department of State — Clean and Advanced Energy Investment Accelerator
The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for a cooperative agreement entitled “Clean and Advanced Energy Investment Accelerator (CAEIA)”. CAEIA aims to remove barriers to the deployment of clean and advanced energy policy in developing countries and to enable and mobilize funding for the deployment of renewable and other advanced energy sources. CAEIA will support a limited number of developing countries that may include Vietnam, Colombia, Mexico, Indonesia, Philippines, and Kenya. Projects can request up to US$641,975 for 36 months. The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for activities under the “Protecting Forests, Sourcing Responsibly” project. Projects should focus on actively developing and implementing REDD+ programs to meet climate and conservation goals as well as reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and improve rural livelihoods in developing countries. U.S. Department of State — Reducing Marine Litter
The U.S. Department of State seeks proposals for projects that use environmentally sustainable waste management and/or reduce the amount of abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear. Four grants of up to US$246,875 each will be awarded for work that will support efforts that help prevent marine litter from entering the ocean. Unilever — Young Entrepreneurs Awards 2018
The Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards invite nominations of individuals ages 18 to 35 anywhere in the world who have initiatives, products, or services that address sustainability challenges in four categories. The categories are “farm to table” (sustainable agriculture and food and drink nutrition); opportunities for women; waste management; and water management. The awards will be made to individuals who are putting their ideas into action, i.e., who are already having an impact. Unilever will recognise up to eight winners in 2018, each of whom will be awarded a cash prize in addition to one-to-one mentoring support for a year. U.S. Department of State — Sustainable Seafood in the Pacific Islands
The U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to support Pacific Islands businesses in the fisheries/seafood sector to adopt sustainable and inclusive practices. The submitted program should leverage U.S. expertise in innovation, entrepreneurship, and investment to empower Pacific Islands businesses. Caterpillar Foundation — Grants for Environment and Basic Needs
Internationally, the Caterpillar Foundation has supported projects in tropical forest conservation and afforestation; water and sanitation; food and agriculture; alternative (low-carbon) transportation systems; urban waste recycling; and other themes related to environment and natural resources. The Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations such as development NGOs, universities and institutes, foundations, museums, conservation groups, and others. Earth Journalism Network — Bay of Bengal Organizational Grants
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers Organizational Grant to support the creation of media organizations in the Bay of Bengal region, that aim to improve the quantity and quality of information about climate change. Particular attention should be given to the adaptation needs, challenges, efforts and success stories of vulnerable and marginalized communities. Preference will be given to applications from or affiliated with professional journalists, media organizations, journalism schools, and the like. However, EJN will also consider applications by NGOs or environmental groups looking to build the capacity of journalists to cover conservation issues. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Conservation in the Eastern Afromontane Biodiversity Hotspot
The CEPF seeks letters of inquiry for small grants (less than US$50 thousand) to conserve biodiversity in the Eastern Afromontane Hotspot. The conservation priorities are stated in the announcement for Strategic Directions 1, 2, and 3 in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Eligibility for funding extends to NGOs, community groups, universities, private enterprises, and other applicants from civil society. Government enterprises and institutions may be eligible if they can meet special criteria. All applicants are encouraged to discuss proposal ideas prior to submitting.
