European Commission — Kolarctic Collaboration, Europe with Russia (3rd Call for Proposals)

Kolarctic offers funding to projects that contribute to internationalization and cross-border cooperation between countries in northern Europe (Finland, Norway, Sweden) and Northwest Russia. Themes in Kolarctic address environmental protection, along with climate change adaptation and mitigation (among others). Eligibility for project funding extends to private and public organizations from each side of the EU-Russia border. Every project should provide at least 10% co-funding. European Commission — Improved Regional Fisheries Governance in West Africa

The European Commission calls for projects that increase the sustainability of the use of marine resources in West Africa by enhancing scientific knowledge, and supporting the development and implementation of effective management/conservation measures. Eligibility extends to individuals working for a scientific institute, a West African or International NGO, or an international organisation. Grants are between €1 million and €1.5 million. International Development Research Center — Food Security in Africa

Canada’s IDRC calls for research projects with the potential to generate high impact and innovative results for improved food security in Africa. The research should focus on improved productivity and incomes for farmers; gender equity; nutrition and human health; and climate change and sustainable water management. Eligibility to participate extends to NGOs, universities, and government departments with legal corporate registration in Burundi; Ethiopia; Kenya; Malawi; Mozambique; Rwanda; Tanzania; Uganda; Zambia; and Zimbabwe. Swiss Re Foundation — Leadership Prize in Water Management

The International ReSource Award is a prize acknowledging social entrepreneurial thinking and leadership in addressing social and/or ecological issues related to sustainable water management practices in developing and emerging countries. Each of three finalists will receive US$20 thousand and expert assistance to further develop their proposals in order to compete for a first prize of US$75 thousand. Eligibility for the ReSource Award extends to charities, non-profit organizations, and revenue-generating social enterprises working in the areas of water, sanitation, and hygiene in the developing world. Misk Foundation — Misk Grand Challenges (1st application window)

The Misk Foundations seeks innovative ways to positively engage young people (under the age of 30) in Global Citizenship. Participants are invited to propose innovative and creative solutions that uses new knowledge to positively engage young people in efforts that will reduce inequality related to six Global Goals: (1) No poverty; (2) Zero hunger; (3) Good health and well-being; (4) Quality education; (5) Gender equality; and (6) Clean water and sanitation. Over a three-year period, Misk Grand Challenges will launch new challenges, offering 100 young innovators across the world a grant of $100 thousand to develop their ingenious ideas into a concrete proof of concept. Alcoa Foundation — Location Grants

The Alcoa Foundation makes signature grants and location grants. Location grants serve communities around the world where Alcoa has production facilities or administrative offices. Grant making addresses the Foundation’s two key focus areas (i.e., climate change and biodiversity), in addition to local community priorities. Interested organizations make their grant requests through their local Alcoa facility. The Foundation provides a link to Alcoa’s locations worldwide including in Brazil, Guinea, Saudi Arabia, and Suriname. Link

National Geographic Society — Conservation Technologies

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world that will advance innovative conservation technologies to explore, visualize, and protect the planet. Priority will be given to projects that use multi-sensor monitoring systems, advance surveillance/alarm systems for protected areas, or develop new tools and capabilities needed to generate data. Typical proposal requests should be less than US$50 thousand, but applicants may request up to US$100 thousand. The deadline for applications is 04 April 2018. Know more

Avina Stiftung — Grants for Environment

Avina Stiftung is active mainly in Switzerland, but it also supports Swiss development work in Latin America, as well as selected initiatives with a global focus. The Foundation supports innovations to promote eco-efficiency, biodiversity, and ecological sustainability. It also seeks to enhance awareness of environmental issues. National Geographic Society — Sustainable Cities

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world that aim to test innovative approaches to issues surrounding the production or consumption of energy, food, infrastructure and fresh water in and around cities. Projects may be focused around conservation, education, research, storytelling, or technology. Applicants may request from US$10 thousand to US$150 thousand to be used over one or two years. National Geographic Society — Changing Polar Systems

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals for its “Changing Polar Systems” grant programme from all around the world. New and innovative science and communication approaches – as well as collaborations that can convey critical information about polar systems in a relevant and compelling way – are welcome. Projects may be focused around conservation, education, research, storytelling, or technology.
