The Rainforest Biodiversity Group invites proposals for projects that contribute to the conservation of biodiversity in the Neotropics. The priority for 2017 is support for the San Juan – La Selva Biological Corridor in Costa Rica. Eligibility for funding extends to graduate students and non-profit organizations. Funding up to US$1,500 may be used for scientific research, environmental education, sustainable economic development, or other conservation activities that demonstrate benefit to the conservation of wildlife or their habitat. U.S. Agency for International Development — Fomenting Agriculture Incomes and Resilience in Guatemala
USAID announces FAIR (“Fomenting Agriculture Incomes and Resilience”) as a five-year program to reduce poverty and chronic malnutrition by increasing agricultural incomes and improving resilience of small farmers and their families in five departments of Guatemala’s Western Highlands. Subject to funding availability, USAID intends to provide US$60 million for the program over five years. Eligibility for funding is restricted to local organizations in Guatemala. SEED Foundation — Agricultural Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa 2017
The SEED Foundation supports French nonprofit organizations in partnership with nonprofit organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa for innovative solutions that address food security. Projects can address agricultural practices, farming knowledge and capacity, local agricultural products, etc. Grants range from €7 thousand to €15 thousand, up to 70% of project costs. U.S. Agency for International Development — Pacific-American Climate Fund
The Pacific-American Climate Fund (PACAM) is a five-year project that provides grants in the developing countries of the Pacific Islands to support measures for climate change adaptation, and that provide additional benefits. The current call for proposals (i.e., Cycle 4) is for projects in Papua New Guinea. Applications are invited from civil society organizations, including those that do not have previous experience with USAID. Grants are up to US$250 thousand for projects of up to 21 months. European Commission — Reducing Climate Vulnerability in São Tomé and Principe
The EC announces grants to address climate vulnerability in São Tomé and Principe. The program will work to provide tangible benefits for the vulnerable communities of Lembá and Mé-Zóchi in matters of water supply, rural energy, agricultural diversification, soils management, and forest management. Principal applicants for funding should be NGOs eligible under the EC’s rules for external actions. The planned allocations are €750 thousand for Lembá and €750 thousand for Mé-Zóchi. Global Affairs Canada — Agri-Food Value Chains and Adaptation to Climate Change in Haiti
The Government of Canada calls for proposals to promote strengthened agri-food value chains and adaptation to climate change in Haiti. Areas that were severely affected by Hurricane Matthew require increased support to restore agricultural production capacity and infrastructure. Projects should focus on two or three of the departments of Artibonite, Sud, and Grand-Anse. Eligibility for funding extends to Canadian and non-Canadian organizations, including private-sector organizations. Grants will range from $3 million to $15 million. Fondation Nature & Decouvertes — Nature Protection in France and Africa 2017
Fondation Nature & Decouvertes supports projects for nature protection, environmental education, and public awareness in France. Additionally, a few grants support projects with similar themes in Francophone Africa. The next application deadline for environmental education projects (funding of €8 thousand to €25 thousand) is 01 February 2017. European Commission — Sustainable Energy in the Philippines
The EC will make grants to increase the availability of electricity generated from renewable energy in off-grid rural and semi-urban communities of the Philippines. The grants will be made in four lots, each with a different objective. Grants are up to €4 million, varying by lots and cost shares. The lead applicants should be NGOs, private or public utility operators, international organizations, foundations, electric cooperatives, or academic institutions in the EU, the Philippines, or other countries eligible under Europe’s DCI regulation. Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Africa — Small Grants for Organizations in Africa
PAN is an advisor to the Global Greengrants Fund (GGF) for grants to civil society in subjects of environment and sustainable development. PAN Africa invites African organizations to submit short proposals that may qualify for GGF support. Themes important to PAN include phasing out highly hazardous pesticides; alternatives to pesticides and DDT; monitoring the effect of pesticides on human health and environment; and opposition to GMOs. Proposals should include project objectives, methodology, expected results, and an activities budget. The requested contribution should not exceed US$3,500. Proposals must be sent to PAN by e-mail no later than 25 November 2016. Link
Monsanto Fund — Grants to Strengthen Farming Communities 2017
The Monsanto Fund makes grants to strengthen agricultural communities in several countries around the world. Grants of US$25 thousand and more are available to tax-exempt charitable organizations for activities and projects that address farmers’ education and training; food security; community water and sanitation; and other local needs. Monsanto’s international grants are administered at the country level. The Fund presents a list of eligible countries. Monsanto accepts international applications during two periods each year. The first period ranges from 01 January through 28 February. The second period ranges from 01 July through 31 August. Link
