The European Union intends to boost innovation in agriculture and food systems transformation of partner countries with a view to be more resilient to the effects of climate change. The European Commission calls for applied research projects to address climate change adaptation and resilience of family farming in Angola. The priority of this call is to find options for the improvement of family farming, test them, and assess their contribution to resilience. Grant funding ranges from €800 thousand to €1 million. Eligibility extends to universities, agriculture research institutions, and international organizations. Applicants must have proven experience in conducting operational research projects in developing countries in the following areas: agriculture, livestock, climate change/environment, community development, agroforestry and food security. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in the Mediterranean Basin (Balkans)
The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) invites Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) for small grants (up to US$30 thousand) in support of biodiversity conservation in the Mediterranean Basin. Funding will be provided in support of sustainable management of water catchments/freshwater biodiversity and cultural landscapes in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) invites proposals from non-governmental organizations and community-based organizations to submit project proposals on territories and areas protected by local communities. GEF makes COVID-19 relief grants to local communities in conserved areas in Jordan. Grants are up to US$50 thousand for a total duration of 24 months. European Commission — Improving Food Security of Vulnerable Populations in the Indian Ocean Region
The European Commission (EC) seeks to help reduce malnutrition and food insecurity in the Indian Ocean region (Mauritius, Comoros, Madagascar, Seychelles). EC intends to grant a total of €5 million for the increase and diversification of agricultural production, €400 thousand to improve the nutritional situation of vulnerable populations in Mauritius and Seychelles, and €1.6 million to improve the nutritional situation of vulnerable populations in Madagascar and the Comoros. Eligibility extends to non-governmental organizations, producer organizations, farmers’ organizations, cooperatives, social enterprises, and international organizations. Hilden Charitable Trust — Community Projects in Developing Countries
The Hilden Charitable Fund makes grants in the UK and developing countries in defined thematic areas. Projects in developing countries focus on community development, education, and health. (Note: Projects related to food security, community water supply, local energy, etc., may be relevant.) Hilden particularly welcomes projects addressing the needs and potential of girls and women. Hilden will consider funding for charitable organizations based in any developing country that have been active for at least five years and meet its criteria on financial income. J.M. Kaplan Fund — J.M.K. Innovation Prize
The J.M. Kaplan Fund supports innovation in the fields of environment, heritage conservation, and social justice. The J.M.K. Innovation Prize is particularly designed for early-stage ideas in pilot and prototype phases. The prize provides up to three years of support at US$50 thousand per year, as well as US$25 thousand for technical assistance or project expenses. Global Giving — Crowdfunding Training Opportunity
GlobalGiving is an online platform to raise funds for grassroots projects worldwide across many sectors and themes – including in agriculture, energy, environment, and natural resources. GlobalGiving announces a new Accelerator program that will offer virtual training in online fundraising and participation in a two-week crowdfunding campaign. The program is open to nonprofit organizations anywhere in the world. Organizations that successfully complete the GlobalGiving Accelerator by raising at least US$5 thousand total from a minimum 40 different donors will earn permanent membership with GlobalGiving, in addition to $30 thousand in matching funding and bonus prizes. Eurasia Foundation — Innovative Solutions Grants (Kazakhstan)
The Eurasia Foundation (EF) announces Innovative Solutions Grants in support of civil society organizations in Central Asia (Kazakhstan). Grants are designed for civil society representatives proposing new solutions to social problems and civic initiatives that can lead to demonstrable positive change. Violet Jabara Charitable Trust — Grants for Projects in the Middle East
The Violet Jabara Trust supports organizations working in the developing countries of the Middle East to promote sustainable economic development, as well as reproductive health and women’s welfare. The Trust’s thematic interests include environmental issues, among others. Priority countries are Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Palestine (Occupied Territories), Yemen, Egypt and North Africa. Countries further afield (such as the Gulf countries, Sudan, or Afghanistan) may be considered, but will not be given priority. Lemelson Foundation — International Entrepreneurship
The Lemelson Foundation supports programs to empower local inventors and entrepreneurs in India and East Africa to address social and economic challenges to improve the lives of the poor.
