Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI) supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries. Civil society organizations are invited to submit proposals for projects that reverse and reduce the loss of tropical forests. Priority geographic focus for funding are Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Guyana, DR Congo, Gabon, the Republic of Congo, Liberia, Ethiopia and Indonesia. However, strategic projects focusing on other important tropical forest countries will also be considered. Projects should cover a five-year period. European Commission — Circular Economy and Local Development in Ghana
The European Commission provides funding to support actions that will promote a circular economy and local development in Ghana. Projects should aim to contribute to a more sustainable and healthier environment while creating local employment opportunities, or develop technology for the management of community waste to improve sanitation and generate income. The project budget may range from €800 thousand to €1.5 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit civil society organizations from Ghana or the European Union. U.S. Embassy Banjul — Small Grants to Local Communities in Gambia
The Ambassador’s Small Grants program invites applications for small-scale assistance from Gambian cooperatives that implement development activities which improve basic economic or social conditions on a local level. Projects that support livelihoods in rural provinces, agricultural production, and capacity building are preferred. The maximum grant amount per project is US$15 thousand. Please note that this program requires cost sharing in the form of cash, labor, or material provided by the local community. All projects should be completed within one year. Government of India — Cleaning the Ganga and Agri-Water
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) India and the Dutch Research Council (NWO) aim to contribute to cleaning the Ganga, with particular focus on the impact of agriculture on the Ganga water system. Proposed projects may focus on river basin system management and research, propose interventions to improve agricultural water management, or produce science-based recommendations for policies and regulations that contribute to increased water awareness. Proposals should furthermore be characterized by equal partnership and sustainable collaboration between the Indian and Dutch partners. Applications can be submitted by consortia that include research organizations, academic institutions, and/or public, semi-public or private organizations (for-profit or non-profit). Consortia can apply for a maximum of €700 thousand at NWO (Dutch research partners) and a maximum of Rs. 5.5 crores from DST (Indian research partners). The deadline for submissions is 12 May 2020. The European Commission seeks projects with focus on improving sanitation of the urban environment and hygiene practices for populations in Nkayi and Owando (Zimbabwe). French Embassy in Cameroon — Environment and Biodiversity Protection in Cameroon
The French Embassy in Cameroon provides support to the Cameroonian civil society organizations with the objective to foster sustainable development projects. Submitted projects should focus on environment and biodiversity protection, e.g. conservation of threatened species, fight against poaching, creation/development of a green industry, integration of indigenous and/or peripheral communities of Protected Areas, and the inclusion of women in environmental protection. (Note: Projects with focus on citizenship and human rights are also being accepted.) The required financing shall range between €10 thousand and €60 thousand for a maximum of 15 months. US Department of State — Supporting Women in Equatorial Guinea
The U.S. Embassy in Malabo invites project proposals with focus on women issues and economy diversification in Equatorial Guinea. Projects need to address the social or economic inclusion of women (i.e. equal rights, training in business development skills, promoting the entrepreneurial spirit, and opportunities for women) or diversify the Equatoguinean economy. The Embassy expects to make 4 grants of up to US$7 thousand for projects with a duration of up to 7 months. The European Commission invites concept notes for projects that address urban challenges such as water security, pollution, and climate change, among others. Fondation SUEZ — Biodiversity and Nature-based Solutions
Fondation SUEZ accepts applications for the Acting for Natural Assets program in search for “Biodiversity and nature-based solutions.” Applicants must demonstrate how their project addresses the issue of conserving biodiversity or restoring ecosystem service. The project is situated in France or the French overseas territories. SUEZ will donate a total amount of €100 thousand that will be divided up between three projects according to their needs.
