The Flemish Inter-University Council (VLIR-UOS) invites applications for Short Initiative projects that aim to build and deepen academic/scientific collaborations among diverse teams of academics and researchers. Short Initiatives focus on a sustainable development challenge. The objective is to strengthen research and educational capacities of higher education and science institutions in partner countries in Latin America, Africa and Southeastern Asia. The Commonwealth Secretary-General — Global Ocean Competition
The Commonwealth Secretary-General and the Commonwealth Youth Climate Change Network (CYCN) launch a global competition to inspire young people to take action on oceans. The Youth Action Challenge will award three young activists with £1,000 each for their work towards the realization of conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas and marine resources. Earth Journalism Network — Reporting on the Mediterranean Sea (Morocco)
Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers reporting grants to journalists from Morocco interested in developing in-depth stories exposing the scale of unsustainable marine management and biodiversity loss in the Mediterranean Sea. ENJ expects to make 5 awards of €500 each. Applicants can be from all countries that border the Mediterranean Sea. Applicants must be based in Morocco. Applications are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and other expert media practitioners with professional reporting experience. Wild Animal Initiative — Fellowship Program
Wild Animal Initiative invites early-career scientists to apply to a fellowship program. Fellowships are offered to individuals to conduct wild animal welfare research that is explicitly focused on combining animal welfare and the study of wild animals. Wild Animal Initiative offers a stipend of up to US$60 thousand per year for salary and living expenses. Eligible candidates can request an additional allowance of up to US$25 thousand per year for field work, consumables and other research related costs. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in the Mountains of Central Asia
The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) invites applications for large grants to promote biodiversity conservation in the Mountains of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan). Large grants range from US$50 thousand to US$150 thousand. Project proposals should be built on biodiversity conservation as a fundamental component. The call is open to NGOs, community groups, cultural organizations, women’s groups, private companies and civil society organizations. German Federal Environmental Foundation — PhD Fellowships
The German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) offers 60 research fellowships per year to young scientists in Germany and internationally across all disciplines of environmental protection. The funding period is 36 months with a monthly stipend of €1,500. DBU welcomes subjects of international importance, although the work has to be done mainly in Germany, and with a clear reference to the German environmental situation. Earth Journalism Network — Reporting Grants Blue Economy in Belize
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers reporting grants to journalists in Belize, to support the production of in-depth stories on the protection, conservation and management of reef health. Stories should raise awareness about the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth in Belize, and initiatives to improve livelihoods and jobs while preserving the health of the ocean ecosystem. U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service — Marine Turtle Management and Conservation Program Pacific Islands
The International Marine Turtle Management and Conservation Program supports conservation, protection, or management actions supporting recovery of endangered sea turtle species occurring within the Pacific Islands Region. The program funds internationally-based projects to protect conserve western Pacific leatherback sea turtles occurring in Indonesia and Solomon Islands, and sea turtle management and conservation projects within Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Philippines, or Indonesia) and Japan with focus on fishery bycatch, nesting beach monitoring, poaching reduction, and/or the illegal sea turtle wildlife trade. Proposals between US$10 thousand and US$100 thousand per project year will be funded. Projects may apply for up to three years in length. Eligible applicants are institutions of higher education, nonprofits, commercial organizations, foreign institutions, foreign organizations, and governments. Endangered Landscapes Programme — Restoring Endangered Landscapes
The Endangered Landscapes Programme (ELP) invites expressions of interest from organizations and partnerships for the Landscape Restoration Grant. The program supports landscapes and seascapes restoration in areas that are ecologically degraded, fragmented, disconnected, missing key species and vulnerable to climate change. The maximum grant amount projects can apply for is €100 thousand. The program welcomes applications for smaller amounts. Each team must identify a Lead Partner who will take responsibility for the project. Lead partners must be not-for-profit organizations. The deadline for expressions of interest is 03 February 2023. Earth Journalism Network — Media Workshop: Indigenous Environmental Reporting
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) invites Indigenous journalists from around the world to apply for a two-day media workshop (Kenya, February 2023). The workshop will explain the importance of Indigenous environmental reporting and build valuable journalistic skills to help participants strengthen their reporting and storytelling skills. The workshop is open to Indigenous journalists from any country interested in covering Indigenous environmental issues.
