The Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) offers partial funding of wetland-related research conducted by undergraduate and graduate students worldwide. A total of up to US$1 thousand can be requested to aid student’s costs of travel, room and board in the course of field investigation and to help cover costs of expendable materials and supplies required in the execution of the proposed research. The applicant must currently be enrolled in a Ms or PhD program related to wetland science (e.g. biology, environmental science, environmental engineering, etc.) and be a member of SWS. Association of Zoos and Aquariums — Conservation Grants Fund 2022
The AZA’s Conservation Grants Fund makes grants for animal health; animal welfare; conservation education; field conservation and/or reintroduction; management and/or breeding; and research. The principal investigator in a grants application must be an AZA member. Many grants are awarded to collaborations among AZA-accredited institutions; government wildlife agencies; academia; and conservation NGOs. European Commission — Consolidator Grants
The European Commission provides Consolidator Grants to experienced researchers with a scientific track record. ERC Grants support projects carried out by an individual researcher who can employ researchers of any nationality as team members. Applications can be made in any field of research. Proposed research projects under this program must be conducted in a public or private research organization located in one of the EU Member States or Associated Countries. Land Accelerator — Restoration of Degraded Forests and Farmland (South Asia)
The Land Accelerator trains and supports entrepreneurs that restore degraded forests and farmland. The program offers an all-virtual business creation and growth accelerator in South Asia. The accelerator is designed for companies that are in the testing phase of taking their product to market. Any business model that is recognized as restoring land is eligible, including, but not limited to smart agriculture, water conservation, agroforestry, tree planting, and beekeeping, forest conservation. Lawrence Foundation — Grants for Environment 2022
The Lawrence Foundation makes grants to U.S. nonprofit organizations for projects in environment, human services, and other themes. There is no restriction on the geographical area where grant activities can be implemented. The average grant size is between US$5 thousand and US$10 thousand. The Student Solidarity Awards aim to encourage associations of students in institutions of higher education to take initiatives in community-oriented projects. The program is open in countries around the world where the Veolia group is present. The awards are for innovative approaches in themes that include environmental conservation, development aid, and workforce development. Three contest winners will divide €10 thousand in grants. Melinda Gray Ardia Environmental Foundation — Grants for Environmental Education
The Melinda Gray Ardia Environmental Foundation seeks to contribute to the development, implementation, and/or field testing of environmental curricula. KU Leuven — PhD Scholarships for Students from the Global South
KU Leuven is the largest university in Flanders, Belgium. As one part of its cooperation to advance international development, KU Leuven offers 10 PhD scholarships to candidates from developing countries. The university offers sandwich scholarships, which means that 50% of the research takes place at KU Leuven and 50% at the home institution of the scholar, as well as full-time research at KU Leuven (4 years). The scholarships are offered to proposals that deal with a development-relevant research topic, preferably linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. U.S. Mission to Pakistan — Addressing Environment Protection and Climate Change to Promote Tourism
The U.S. Consulate announces funding to increase environmental awareness among people in Pakistan and address threats to the local environment and the impact that those threats may have on economic development. The project aims to better equip citizens in the northern areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with strategies to protect the environment and make the area more attractive to regional and international tourists. The grantee will carry out research on best practices for citizen activism and sustainable environmental tourism, with a particular focus on U.S. best practices. U.S. Department of State — Protecting the Rights of Environmental Defenders in Africa
The U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations interested in protecting the freedoms of expression and association of environmental defenders in Africa. Proposed projects should seek to elevate local community and grassroots-based activists and improve their capacity to strategically and effectively use advocacy and litigation tools to achieve changes in policy and practices. Projects should seek to target up to three countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, with at least one focus country being Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Tanzania, or Nigeria. Total funding is up to US$1 million. The DRL welcomes applications from US-based and foreign-based non-profit organizations, institutions of higher education; and for-profit organizations.
