Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology — Research Proposals 2020

The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP) welcomes research proposals in the themes “Food Sovereignty, Energy Resilience, Ecosystem Restoration, Climate Change and Disaster Mitigation, and Sustainable Use and Protection of Local Biodiversity in Southeast Asia”. Research proposals should have a budget under Rp100 million and must be implemented within a 9-month period. The call for proposals is open to Indonesian nationals. Zoos Victoria — Grants for International Conservation 2019-20

Zoos Victoria (Australia) helps build international conservation partnerships. The International Grants program is themed ‘Wildlife Conservation through Community Engagement’. Projects that focus on alleviating community-driven threats to wildlife can request funding. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations or community groups. National Geographic Society — Amazon Conservation Capacity

The National Geographic Society supports projects that empower community-based organizations and Indigenous Peoples groups engaged in forest conservation and sustainable forest management. This call supports the development and implementation of conservation programs, capacity building activities, and networking initiatives focused on achieving conservation objectives. Community projects with focus on ecotourism or climate-smart forest management practices are welcome. Applicants may request up to US$150 thousand. Save Our Species — Threatened Species Conservation in Central Asia

Save Our Species (SOS) makes grants for conservation actions on threatened species and their habitats in Central Asia. This Call is accepting proposals targeting the conservation of the Goitered Gazelle (Gazella subgutturosa) and the Snow Leopard (Panthera uncia) and their habitats in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Grants will range from CHF 25 thousand to CHF 200 thousand with a maximum project duration of 18 months. SOS requires matching resources in relation to grant size. Irish Aid — Ireland-Africa Fellows Programme 2020/21

Irish Aid offers scholarships to qualified candidates from Africa to undertake Masters degrees at universities and colleges in Ireland. Awards are made in the fields development studies, rural development, biodiversity conservation, and many other subject areas relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory. The scholarship covers course fees, flights, accommodation, monthly allowances, insurance and other incidental expenses. Eligible countries are Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Oriental Bird Club — Bird Conservation in Asia

The OBC Conservation Fund makes grants for bird conservation in Asia. Grant-making priorities are projects that benefit globally threatened bird species; that conserve threatened bird habitats; and that are led by Asian residents. Small Conservation Awards are up to £1,500 for projects of 12-18 months, with applications before 31 March of each year. There is a special early deadline on 15 November for projects that have to begin before July. The OBC also considers special and emergency applications at any time. How to apply

Nippon Foundation — Marine and Maritime Affairs

The Nippon Foundation makes its overseas grants to nonprofit organizations based outside of Japan. Particular interests in this program area include legal, policy, and governance issues in maritime affairs; support for multilateral networks on ocean issues; and marine environmental management and oceanography. Applications are accepted from non-profit organizations based outside of Japan. They can be regional or international NGOs/NPOs, including educational and research institutions. Nippon Foundation — Overseas Grant Programs

The Nippon Foundation makes its overseas grants to nonprofit organizations based outside of Japan. This refers to local, regional, and international NGOs and other nonprofit organizations, including educational and research institutions. Past projects and education/training include examples in small-scale agriculture and natural resources. There is no minimum or maximum grant size. There is no application deadline. Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas Network — Grants for Small Projects 2020-2021

MedPAN launches a new call for small projects to support Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean. The grants will reinforce the management of MPAs from the perspective of integrated coastal zone management and sustainable financing. They will also promote habitat mapping and the protection of marine turtles. MedPAN’s contribution will be €20 thousand per project (matching contributions of 25 % are required). The eligible countries are Albania, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Montenegro, Tunisia, and Turkey. Biodiversity Revisited — Essay Competition

Biodiversity Revisited seeks applications for an early career essay competition. Early-career researchers are invited to share their view on biodiversity conservation or develop a provocative idea on how biodiversity research and practice can be improved. The essays submitted will be part of the discussions at the international Biodiversity Revisited Symposium taking place in Austria (September 2019).
